Chrome apps missing from search results on Alfred 5

Recommended Posts

Since upgrading to Alfred 5, my search results no longer contain the web apps I've "installed" to my Mac via Chrome. I've cleared the Application Cache, I've rebuilt macOS Metadata, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Alfred 5, starting with fresh preferences. I have the Chrome Apps folder in the list of Search Scope folders. Screenshot of Default Results preferences attached.

I'm on Alfred version 5.1.4 [2195], macOS Sonoma 14.1 (23B74), Chrome 118.0.5993.117

Please help! These are my most common used apps like gmail and google calendar, it's really frustrating not to have them accessible via Alfred.

Thanks in advance for your help 🙏

@sleuth Could you drag one of those Chrome apps to Alfred's File Troubleshooting tool?

https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/

According to a thread from 2014, these are just bookmarks but the app is still Chrome as far as macOS is concerned.

Your best bet may be to create custom keywords like these to launch the specific "apps" from Alfred:

Thanks @Vero!

I did that and that showed that the error is "macOS did not return a match for this file in your search scope.". The recommendation is to set the search scope to full disk. I tried that and that did resolve the issue. Great! I'm confused as to why though. Seems like it's something to do with macOS rather than Alfred? Is there a performance cost to having the scope set to the full disk?

There is no performance cost, but you may find more noise if your file search results.

You could try using Alfred's default search scope and specifically also adding:

/System/Volumes/Data/Users/louis/Applications/Chrome Apps.localized/

The metadata index can sometimes be a bit finicky when it comes to scope, now that macOS has virtual partitioning of data and volumes.

Andrew
