chajes
Hi, I'm very frustrated by Alfred not finding the files I'm search for. HoudahSpot & Tembo are amazing, and even the built-in Spotlight does much better. I have rebuilt MacOs Metadata, etc., but Alfred isn't competing. If it cannot be improved, is it possible to use HoudahSpot or Tembo with an Alfred workflow? Thanks Yossi Link to comment
Vero
@chajes Welcome to the forum! Can you give some examples of what you're searching for, and what you're typing into Alfred to try to find them? It might be worth looking at the indexing troubleshooting page to make sure your files are indeed in Alfred's index, etc: https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/ Cheers, Vero Link to comment
dfay
I think of Alfred and HoudahSpot as complementary - see I don’t remember exactly but I believe I built custom HS searches using Applescript described here : https://forums.houdah.com/post/alfred-workflow-9675606 Edited April 12, 2018 by dfay Link to comment
chajes
Thank you both for responding. I will keep playing with these things and try to figure out the best way to use them. I have been frustrated by typing a file name into Alfred and getting no results, but then getting them immediately in Spotlight & HoudahSpot. Sometimes I only remember a fragment of the name - a couple of words, and not always the first ones of the file name... Link to comment
chajes
A year+ later, for me nothing has changed. I followed the various suggestions, but Alfred's search results are simply unacceptable -- and make me rely on HoudahSpot or Tembo to find most of my docs. Any new thoughts? Tips? If they're all using Spotlight under the hood, shouldn't the results be same?? Link to comment
Vero
@chajes Could you give us examples of what you're searching for? Where are the files located? Are the relevant paths included in Alfred's search scope in Features > Default Results? What file types are they? What are you typing into Alfred when searching? If you can provide some more information, we'll be happy to help you out, but at this point, you haven't given a single example since your first post. Cheers, Vero Link to comment
