New folder

Recommended Posts

This workflow is a Universal Action which enables you to create a single new folder (with a name you choose) in your current active folder (i.e., where you have selected a file or files). It creates the folder and gives the option of moving the selected file(s) to the new folder.

There are no dependencies but the workflow uses a number of Automation Tasks so you will need to ensure those are up-to-date.

I wonder whether you might have any idea why the Automation Task appears to fail when Chinese characters are used.

Can you reproduce the error? Because I can’t, it works just fine for me, even when making a new folder with Chinese characters from acting on a folder which itself has Chinese characters.

@deepsea0715 Please provide the full debug log, as well as any other information relevant to the case, such as the name of the folder you’re creating, which files you’re acting on, your version of Alfred and macOS.

I am having some problems with the workflow using Chinese names but there's something odd happening anyway because the workflow seems on occasion to be adding the name of one of the selected files to the name of the new folder (when I can get it to work at all).

Edit: The problem I'm having is (because my Chinese is not very good 😀) pasting a Chinese folder name into the name field.

I think we have to rely on @deepsea0715 to provide some diagnostics. Although I've been able to create manually a Chinese named folder when I run the workflow for some reason I cannot copy and paste Chinese characters into the name field so can't explore further.

As I'm not currently having a lot of fun with Ventura (with some really odd bugs) I'm not very keen to set up a Chinese keyboard and try.

Hello Steven,
I would like to ask what is the difference between this workflow and the "Create New Folder from Selected Items" option in Finder as shown in the attached image?

Thank you so much.

I suspect there's little difference in the end result. I'm just much more used to using Alfred Universal Actions on selected files and much less used to using Finder → Right Click options. Feel free to whichever better suits you!

Note I have another workflow which creates a new folder: Move to new folder (which is a link to the relevant post on the forum). That enables you to choose the destination folder for the selected files outside the folder in which those files are located and so that workflow is more versatile than the Finder → Right Click option.
