  1. @brookter Apologies, I misread your original post and can now see that something odd seems to be happening for you.

If I've understood correctly, in Alfred's default results, you choose Safari, press Enter and see the Recent Documents list? If so, that's not the expected behaviour. As you can imagine, using Enter should open the app.

Could you please provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email it to our info@ email address so that I can take a look at your Alfred configuration.

Please also let me know if you're using any third-party apps that might be remapping keys on your Mac.

As a temporary measure, you can disable Universal Actions by unchecking all of the Show Actions checkboxes under Features > Universal Actions > Show Actions.

  2. @brookter [Edit: Please ignore this response and take a look at the one below, as I've re-read your post and understood the unexpected behaviour you're getting] Alfred will provide Recent Files where possible. If you open Safari, Notes, Reminders or Calendar and look in the File menu, you'll notice there are no Recent Files and these apps don't track the last opened file.

If you're keen to search for your Safari bookmarks and history for example, this can be done via a workflow:

    https://alfred.app/workflows/acidham/chromium-bookmarks-and-history-search/

  3. @MDR Thanks for sending your Diagnostics file.

Essentially, from the Diagnostics file, it looks like your preferences are almost entirely defaults, like a new install of Alfred. You also don't have a sync location set.

    A few questions:

    • Were you previously syncing your preferences? If so, using which service? (Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud etc)
    • Do you use Time Machine? If so, it should be straightforward to grab your Alfred.alfredpreferences file from the relevant location from before you started seeing these issues
    • Did you use any "app cleaner" style apps, or apps that claim to speed up / clean up your Mac? If so, this app may have deleted the previous preferences when you upgraded. We don't recommend using these apps as they can blindly remove essential files.

Any other information you have on what you were doing around the same time you upgraded Alfred will help us guide you to a resolution :)

  4. @asteryou The error you're seeing relating to indexing shows that the metadata index on your Mac isn't in good shape.

Check if volume '/' is indexed by macOS...

⚠️ Indexing may not be enabled on this drive

    /:
        Error: unexpected indexing state.  kMDConfigSearchLevelTransitioning

First, I would recommend following step 6 from the Indexing troubleshooting page, which will result in a deeper reindex on your Mac. Once your metadata has been rebuilt, try using the File Troubleshooter again, and hopefully you'll see a green tick next to the Indexing status.

I'm not familiar with LuLu Security, but I wouldn't recommend using any tool that meddles with the macOS metadata going forward.

Let me know how you get on.

  5. @UA Mike This means that the issue is outside of Google Drive.

If you don't restart your Mac, and simply quit and relaunch Alfred, do you get any preferences startup error? I assume that you won't, as the location of your preferences is already accessible.

Next, could you please follow these instructions to reset the sync location to defaults?

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/advanced/sync/disable-sync/

This will cause Alfred to use the default preferences in ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred/ which may still not tell us much if this is also stored on your 2TB New NVME drive.  Is this drive your Mac's internal one? Plugged by USB-C or otherwise?

  6. @UA Mike On your second Mac, could you please follow these steps:

    - Copy the Alfred.alfred preferences from your sync location to a folder you name Alfred in your home directory (/Users/michael/Alfred/)

    - Go to Alfred's Advanced preferences and set the above as your sync location

    - Restart your Mac and see if everything launches as expected

Are the contents of your preferences complete? Did you get any error message on startup?

This will help establish if the preferences are at fault, or the Google Drive location.

If it's the GD location, it's possible that your prefs folder isn't really set to be available offline: You may want to try setting the folder in which you store your preferences to be online then offline again, just in case Google Drive isn't respecting your settings.

  7. @Fbed Welcome to the forum :)

These results are sorted by relevance; This usually means the files you opened most recently, either in Alfred or macOS.

You can read more about Alfred's result ordering here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/kb/understanding-result-ordering/

If you'd like to specify the ordering, I would suggest creating a File Filter workflow, where you can sort by last modified, last opened or Alfred's accumulated knowledge about your usage.

  8. @UA Mike Thanks for giving some details on the issue you're seeing.

Taking a look at your first screenshot, am I correct to assume that your "2TB New NVME" drive is an external drive? If so, that's not an appropriate location for your preferences. External drives take time to connect and mount at startup so will not be available quickly enough at startup.

Set the preferences to a location that is available at startup, not thereafter, and see whether the error goes away.

Let me know how you get on :)

  9. @yinan What is your screen configuration? Are you working directly on your laptop screen or are you connected to one or more external screens?

Also, could you please confirm which Alfred theme you're using?

We are on the same Sonoma build, and have been unable to replicate this. We're very keen to work out in what scenario this quirk can be seen, so any additional information about your configuration would be helpful. :)

  10. @godbout The macOS Universal clipboard is intended to be used to copy an item on one device, then paste on another.

Alfred's Clipboard History feature is 100% locally stored and won't be synced between your Macs by design.

Could you clarify what is / isn't working for you?

    • When copying items on your Mac, are they being added to Alfred's Clipboard Viewer?
    • Or are you having issues pasting from the clipboard?

If you can provide more details, including which version of macOS you're using, I'll help you troubleshoot :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  11. @RusselFredson These file types are excluded from default results intentionally. If you're new to searching with Alfred, I'd recommend taking a look at this page, which will show you what keywords you can use to make a broader search using the "open" keyword (or spacebar shortcut):

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/features/file-search/#file-search

It's up to you whether you include documents and text files in your default results, but I'd suggest using the above instead, which keeps your default results tidier, allowing you to quickly launch apps, workflows and other more important actions :)

  12. @paulw Could you try slowing down key events in Alfred's Snippets preferences? It may be that Orion is a slower browser, and needs more time between actions.

To do this, open your Alfred prefs > Features > Snippets > Auto-Expansion Options > Tweaking > Simulated key event speed. Set it to the slowest speed and see if the keyword is fully removed. If it is, speed up the key events until you get to a timing that still works for Orion without necessarily being the slowest.

Let me know how you get on :) It might be worth adding this note to the Orion bug report if it sorts things out for you.

  13. @0xBlizzard Welcome to the forum :)

Are you using Alfred's core version, which is free, or the Powerpack? The additional features (all colours aside from purple) are part of the Powerpack:

Hope this helps you discover Alfred's features!

I can no longer add snippets on the original computer, they will not save

When you say your snippets will not save, could you be more specific? Do you see an error message, or do you hit save and the snippet doesn't appear in the collection?

Could you please provide your Diagnostics file from each Mac, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email your diagnostics to our info@ email address and include a link back to this thread, so that I know which conversation it relates to.

  15. @kii Welcome to the forum!

You have much more control over file search when using a File Filter, which you can connect to an Open File object. The fields configuration below will allow you to find the results you need:

    • Remove kMDItemFinderComment
    • Uncheck "Words"
    • Uncheck "Anchor search" at the bottom

  16. @Ndameanatom INJAI  Are you able to import any of the collections linked here?

    https://www.alfredapp.com/extras/snippets/

Which version of Alfred are you using, and which one are your colleagues using?

Once again, if your colleague can please email the collection, I can take a look. Could you also provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can email it to our info@ address with a link to this thread.

Without sufficient information, all I can do is blindly try to make suggestions, which is inefficient.
