  1. Hi. New premium member here.

    Can i do this?

Choose 15 attachments in a folder in finder

Start a new mail and attach all of the attachments

If i chose the attachments in finder, start alfred and write "email" and hit arrow right nothing happens, if i pick an address from contacts it launches a new mail but not with the files attached

    also

I am using Mailplane, therefore, can the contact be picked up from the corresponding contact from the gmail accounts?

In the way you're describing, Alfred has no way of knowing you want to attach the files selected in Finder. Instead, use Alfred's File Selection, you'll be able to attach the files you've selected to an email.

    To do this

    1. Select one file or more in Finder, then press Cmd + Alt + \ (the File Selection hotkey is set in Alfred's prefs in Features > File Search > Actions, in case you've changed it to something else)

    2. This will show you the available actions for your files

    3. If your contact is a local contact, choose "Email to..." so that you can choose a contact within Alfred

OR if your contacts aren't locally available, just choose "Email" and fill in the recipient once Mailplane has created the new email with the attachments.

This should allow you to attach your files to Mailplane emails :)

  2. Every other day Alfred pops up a message wanting to upgrade to 2.2.  I upgrade to 2.2.   Then a couple of days later it asks again.

If you're seeing updates to 2.2, you're currently set to receive pre-releases. There have been a few builds of v2.2 in pre-release over the past few days as we've made some further fixes and improvements ahead of the general 2.2 release.

If you'd prefer to only get general releases, go to Alfred's Update tab and choose "updates" rather than "pre-releases" from the dropdown menu at the bottom. :)

  3. Hi everyone,

I'm guessing that when upgrading to Mavericks, the path to your iTunes library might've changed, so Alfred's looking at a library that no longer exists.

Open Alfred's Features > iTunes > Advanced preferences and click the 'find' button to re-find the music library, followed by the reset music library button below this.

More info on this troubleshooting page: http://support.alfredapp.com/kb:itunes-library

Let me know how you get on with these steps :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  4. Hi Vero,

I think I found the problem, the email address that was giving me the error has a double dot, xxx@ca.rr.com

This email address is valid, I think Alfred is not interpreting it as email. All other "normal" email addresses in groups work fine.

    Thanks!

I've also tested this theory and numerous .co.uk and .com.au, etc addresses work just fine out of my address book.

Could you please launch your Contacts app and check what field type the @ca.rr.com address is in? You need to make sure it's in an email field, as if it's in a Notes field, or some other field type where it's not recognised as an email address, it won't be launched in your email client.

If you're seeing the issue with one particular contact and no other, I would recommend creating a new contact card for them from scratch, then deleting the old one. That way, if anything was entered in the wrong fields, you'll be able to fix this as you create the new one :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  5. I am trying to find some workflow or any other suitable solution to use alfred to search for i.e. a part of an e-mail address or a phone number and it gives me back the entry of my address book, if there is any.

i want to enter "34567" or "contact 34567" and it would give me contacts that have for example +4930123456789.

is there a workflow or maybe a secret function i have not found yet that can reverse search my address book?

i used to do this back with spotlight search, when a number called to find out if i know who it is. i kind of miss that search since i switched to alfred.

    Hi there,

Could you please fill in your Powerpack email address in your forum profile? This allows us to confirm your Powerpack status first :) We'll then be happy to help you out!

    Cheers,

    Vero

  6. I'm using Alfred v2 (227) with powerpack and certain artists don't show up at itunes mini player, even when the song of said artist is playing as is shown in the first attached screenshot. Also, it seems that the problem happens not because the name of the artist is in Russian, as in the second and third attached screenshot you can see that the second Russian artist tracks are accessible. Please, look into the issue and fix it as soon as you can.

    Hi Thermidore,

As far as I can see, these results should work for the artist name in question so could you please go to Alfred's preferences > iTunes > Advanced and manually re-find your iTunes library? Once you've done this, reindex your music library by popping up Alfred's iTunes Mini Player and pressing Cmd + R. Once reindexed, see whether the results are found correctly.

My Russian is non-existent, but could the characters in the name be similar but non-identical?

    Cheers,

    Vero

  7. Hi,

when I use Alfred to open a contact, when I press enter in the email field it opens my email app with that email selected.

But when that contact is part of a group, pressing enter does nothing.

    Thanks!

    Hi Diego,

Could you try a few different contacts to see whether you can replicate this with any contacts in a group vs not in a group? I've been testing this and can't replicate it; all of my contacts open in emails, regardless of belonging to a group or not in Contacts.app

Are you contacts in your Mail.app and are their email addresses in a valid format?

If you can, please provide some more details. If you don't want to post contact details in public, you can email info@alfredapp com to keep your contacts private. :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  8. I'm thinking of purchasing the power pack, primarily to get the clipboard manager.

Here's a little more detail on how Alfred's clipboard works.

You use a hotkey (Cmd + Alt + V by default) to bring up the Clipboard viewer, which will show you the items you recently copied to your clipboard. It's the forward item on this screenshot (I had to borrow one from our website as my personal clipboard contains private info :) )

    clipboard_snippets%402x.jpg

Once you can see this panel, you can start typing "email" and all items containing "email" will be filtered down on the left. If the top item isn't the one you want, scroll down until you find the one you want (You'll see the summary of the snippet on the right-hand panel) or access it using Cmd + number for the top items.

Alfred's clipboard is exclusively plain text, so formatting is stripped as you paste the clipboard content. (You can also use a workflow to create a "Paste as Plain Text" hotkey to save you time when pasting the last item you copied)

You can see the Clipboard history settings here:

    http://support.alfredapp.com/features:clipboard

In the settings you can choose:

    - Which apps Alfred should ignore (e.g. password apps)

    - How long Alfred should remember your clips for (24 hours to 3 months)

You can also create text snippets if you want some re-usable bits of text like your address or signature. You access these through the same clipboard hotkey, where you'll see "All Snippets" at the top.

Keeping in mind I've never used Ditto before, hopefully this gives you a better idea of how the clipboard history works :)

  9. Aloha--

Thanks! For some reason, the current version in the App store is Alfred 1.2, so I didn't realize that there was a more current version.

    --Susan

We won't be updating the version that is available in the Mac App Store at this time, so your best bet is to get v2 from our website. You can then purchase the Powerpack if you wish, but at least, you'll be sure to always get the latest updates to the free version regardless :)

  10. Hi all,

I have a file called "2014-01-23_TrueDetectiveClip.m4a" that Alfred does not seem to index. I'm using the "open file ..." command. Any ideas about what is wrong?

    Sam

    Hi Sam,

Could you please let us know what query you're typing to search for it and where the file is located on your Mac?

Here is a more in-depth troubleshooting page for finding files that can probably answer your question, but if not, please give some more details and I'll help you out :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  11. Hi

    here is my problem.

I open Itunes mini player and I navigate to my playlist section

I open for example the playlist "recently added"

I don't see all my songs that are into the playlist but It starts playing the last song that I added

and It's the same for all the playlists

Is this the right behavior or am I missing something?

I want to scroll down my playlist's songs and then choose a song to start with

    Is it possible?

Hi there, Sorry for the slower-than-usual reply :)

iTunes provides limited access to playlists so Alfred can start a playlist, but you won't be able to browse through the playlist to pick a song.

However, in normal conditions, it should start the playlist from the beginning (first song). Do you have "shuffle" switched on? If so, you'll need to turn it off manually first so that Alfred can start your playlist from the beginning. Since iTunes 11, Apple removed/broke the AppleScript that allows third-party apps like Alfred to switch "shuffle" on and off.

After this, if you still have issues playing your playlist normally, could you please check that Alfred is looking at the correct iTunes library? You can compare these two paths:

In Alfred: In preferences, under Features > iTunes > Advanced

In iTunes: In preferences, under Advanced

These should match, confirming that Alfred is looking at the correct library.

Let me know how you get on :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  12. Indeed :

So, it would be great to be able to change these shortcuts !

    Thanks from France

Have you tried these combos first to see if they work?

Cmd + number works fine on a French keyboard, regardless of the fact that the number is the secondary character assigned to that key. I've re-tested this on a standard layout French keyboard and it works just as expected :)

Just to clarify, don't press the Shift key. Simply press the cmd key and the key where the number is - in other words, you'll be typing Cmd + & for Cmd + 1.

  13. I accidentally hit Alt+Up Arrow while on a search result and noticed that the icon was pinned to the top of the alfred window.  I looked around to see if what that was for, but couldn't find anything (probably not looking for the right thing).  What does Alt+Up Arrow do?  Here is a screenshot showing this.

It is indeed the File Buffer (which is very handy for processing multiple files at once). :)

You can see what hotkeys are used here:

    http://support.alfredapp.com/features:file-search#file-buffer

  14. Alfred doesn't change my keyboard layout as it does in Mountain Lion.

Hi there, have a look at this knowledge base entry for details on using OS X input sources with Alfred when you have multiple keyboard languages/layouts available:

    http://support.alfredapp.com/kb:keyboard-languages

Let me know if you still have any issues :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

[Note: Moved to Closed, as it isn't a bug in Alfred, just something to set up in the way you want it to behave.]

  15. I'd like to type a keyword and have a different Alfred keyword get executed. You can think of this as an alias or a shortcut.

A practical example is with Victor Quinn's Volume Adjust workflow: I type "vol mute" dozens of times per day. I'd rather type "mute" into Alfred.

Create a new workflow and have a look at the objects in the + in the top right. You can connect a keyword to an iTunes action to do exactly what you want (if I've understood you correctly)

    workflow-example-itunes.png

All I've done here is pick a keyword object (with no argument) and set the keyword as "up" and "down". I then connected each one with its respective action from the + button in the top right (Actions > iTunes Command and then select from the dropdown menu)

Let me know if you'd like me to share the workflow above, but it'll only take a few seconds to create your own and you can set your own keywords as you go. :)

  16. If anyone else is experiencing this, it turns out that you can fix it with one of the tips mentioned in the article Vero cites above: just hide and then show the dock (Cmd-alt-D twice).

Thanks for coming back and suggesting this. Obviously, the ideal remains for Apple to resolve the issue, but in the meantime, I'll keep it in mind if anyone encounters this issue :)

  17. OK thanks for your reply but wherever I place the file, none of the workflows appear. I can interrogate the file and see loads of workflows...alfred just doesn't seem them or use the alfred.alfredpreferences file. Weird...

Could you please zip up your alfred.alfredpreferences file and email it to info@alfredapp com so that we can take a look? Andrew will take a look and see whether there's anything unusual in there that could cause an issue. :)

  18. Hi

I have rebuilt my Mac recently and had my Sync folder file saved off on Skydrive. Now when I try and use this Sync folder it blanks the file existing in there and rebuilds another. I have loads of workflows I want to use, what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Gr4z

Alfred doesn't delete any files if the name already exists in the location you've set, and would just use the file that's there.

I don't know how Skydrive works, but it may be worth setting your sync location somewhere local on your Mac (e.g. on your Desktop) temporarily to see if everything works. If Alfred sees and changes the preferences normally there, it may be that Skydrive isn't a suitable service for syncing your preferences.

  19. iTunes mini player got not to show album artworks when I clicked Reset Artwork.

    But iTunes shows artworks correctly.

Please tell me the way to solve this problem.

All album artworks are embedded in each music file.

It may be relevant that the iTunes Music folder is in the SD card and the iTunes library xml file is in the SSD in my PC.

Hi there, as the iTunes Mini Player is a Powerpack feature, could you please fill in your Powerpack details in your forum profile first?

    Thanks,

    Vero

  20. Is it possible to show Safari bookmarks in the default results, but not Safari history?

Safari history shows too much junk for me, I prefer to use a workflow to specifically search through Safari's history.

    Hi Jono,

Alfred doesn't include History when the "Bookmarks" checkbox is checked in Default Results, so it could be appearing for one of two reasons:

    1. Check you haven't manually added it under the "Advanced" button in the Default Results prefs

    2. You may be seeing your URL history, which you can switch on/off in the preferences under Web Search > URLs/History

Let me know if those are the results you were seeing :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  21. Hi, I'm having a few problems that I didn't experience with Alfred v1. I do have the power pack.

With regards to your first issue, which version of OS X are you using? If you're using the latest version of OS X, you may be affected by a Mavericks bug where, on unlocking your Mac, windows like Safari will be appearing stuck in the top left corner of the screen due to Mavericks mis-judging the position of your screen. As a result, Alfred also appears off-screen, giving the impression that the Alfred search box isn't appearing and some OS X windows are gone.

As this is a Mavericks bug, we are hoping Apple will fix it soon. Until then, I'd recommend disabling the sleep or lock command (depending on what you're using) and using the screensaver command with a password instead.

For the second, as David asked, are you seeing any apps in your Alfred results? If these are not appearing, you may just need to rebuild your OS X metadata index, which you can do by going to Alfred's Advanced prefs and clicking "Rebuild OS X Metadata".
  22. OS X 10.9.1 on Macbook (2008 unibody) and iMac (mid 2010)

    Alfred 2.1.1 with PowerPack

Since updating my two machines to Mavericks, the Alfred window does not display after a system restart. Applies to both machines.

    Steps:

    1. Reboot machine. Alfred launches on startup.

    2. Press Alfred hotkey (Ctrl-Space in my case)

    3. No popup.

Alfred is definitely doing something: whatever application I am currently in will dim, and if I press Cmd-, the Alfred preferences appear, but the Alfred window itself never appears.

If I quit and restart Alfred, everything works fine from then on.

Alfred is most likely appearing, but off-screen, so it seems that the window isn't showing at all. Alfred positions himself relative to the display info provided by OS X, so if OS X is reporting the wrong size/position, apps can appear in the wrong place. Some users have reported that issue with other apps as well, where they "bunch up" in the top left corner of the screen when coming back from sleep.

    It only seems to affect a small handful of users, and it's likely to be one of two things;

    1. Mavericks has a known issue with window management, where it reports the wrong window size, resulting in apps like Alfred appearing in the wrong place. You can see the thread on the Apple Discussion forum here:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5516275

    2. Window management apps can also interfere with display information, so are you using any of those? If so, I'd suggest disabling any of these for a while and seeing whether you still experience that behaviour issue.

I'll move this to the Help forum, in case anyone else has any further suggestions. :)

    Cheers,

    Vero
