  1. I can hold CMD and double tap C to append selected text to the clipboard, but what if there is no selection?

Specifically I want to right-click links in Safari, select "copy link", and paste several of these in the Terminal (e.g. for wget).

Opening Alfred's history and doing something there to combine items would be fine as well.

Hi there, could you please fill in your Powerpack email address in your profile details before asking for Powerpack-related support? It's only visible to you and to me (as administrator) but allows us to confirm you're indeed a Powerpack user.

    Thanks :)

  2. I can't see the tracks of a Playlist in Alfred iTunes mini player. Is that also a iTunes 11 bug?

Alfred has never shown the contents of playlists in the Mini Player. You can select a playlist and start playing it but, due to the iTunes limitations, it's not possible to browse within playlists. :)

  3. Hi, I love the calculations feature in Alfred. It would be even better if you could include percentages e.g...

    298*5%

Also if you could put constants in preferences so I could define VAT = 20%

    Then I could type...

    395+VAT

For a simple percentage, you can just do 298*0.05 to get the 5% figure you want.

Also, why not create a workflow for fancier calculations like VAT, tips or those other awkward calculations? If you're not sure how, ask the question in the workflows help & questions forum. Granted you can also do it as 395*1.2, but I'd welcome a mindless VAT calculator too ;)

  4. Just a reminder that if you're looking for help in creating workflows, please post this in the correct forum as this isn't an Alfred feature suggestion, but rather something that can be (most likely) done with a custom workflow. :)

I've now moved this thread to "Workflow help & questions".

  5. I have a portuguese keyboard. This means that I type 4 using a single key, and $ by issuing ⇧+4. The problem arises when I try to set a keyboard shortcut (happens both in workflows and with Alfred’s main hotkey) to ^+⇧+4 — Alfred sees it as ^+⇧+$, which means it’s expecting me to use plus a key that already needs it in the first place, effectively preventing the correct usage of the shortcut.

This combination is exactly the same on a UK keyboard, which Andrew uses everyday to develop Alfred :)

Alfred registers the actual keys you're pressing so if you're pressing down the Shift key and a number key, Alfred will register this as the shift + number key combo. In the case of shift + 4, this is $. Setting a combo to shift + a number and expecting the number is an impossibility as OS X and Alfred will always recognise the modified key instead (e.g. the $ sign, not the number 4).

If you want to use a combination with numbers, you'll need to use cmd/opt/ctrl modifiers instead of the shift key.

  6. Anyone else using theBrain?

would love to see a search for a 'thought' and attach a simple note, much like the devonthink note workflow. theBrain plex is cumbersome for quick entries to existing thoughts (as is devonthink until recently! thanks dan.)

I'm novice at manipulating script and workflows, but great at getting my jobs in on time, and a workflow support for the brain would certainly be appreciated by many.

apologies for asking without being able to do much giving..

    cheers!

I'll move this to the Workflow help & questions, as it isn't an Alfred feature request as such and you may find someone there who can help you create a workflow. :)

  7.

First of all, this is a weird one and I've only seen this with Alfred 2. Here's what happens:

Over time, Alfred 2 can't find certain entries (apps) anymore. If I run Alfred 1 beside it, Alfred 1 *can* find the entries I'm searching for. (Right now Alfred 2 can't find Terminal.app, Alfred 1 can, Spotlight can too).

Have you rebuilt your OS X metadata (there is a shortcut in Alfred's Advanced preferences "Rebuild OS X metadata")?

Both versions of Alfred, as well as Spotlight, have their own temporary cache, so what you may be seeing in Spotlight and v1 is the cache, while v2 may be showing the real index (where Terminal is missing). I would recommend rebuilding your metadata (which can take up to an hour) and typing "reload" into Alfred v2 once it has completed to refresh v2's index.

Let me know how you get on :)

  8.

    Hello :)

I am having trouble with Alfred learning my youtube shortcut for 'Search Youtube'. It was working fine until 30 minutes ago when typing 'you' instead brought up my bookmark for YouTube (and I pressed enter). Now, no matter how many times I select 'Search YouTube' after typing 'you' it will not relearn it. In addition I by accident selected another bookmark (with the word 'your' in its title) once and now even this appears before 'Search YouTube'!!

This is a consequence of keyword latching, but won't affect your ability to search with YouTube. Simply keep typing "youtube keyword" to filter your query to YouTube.

You can also change your keyword for YouTube to "yt" so that you can even more quickly type "yt keyword" to find what you want!

I'll move this to the Discussions forum and out of Bugs. :)

  9. It is very strange, but suddenly all system commands stopped working when using Alfred. "Sleep" is like my most used command and it is quite frustrating that it all stopped working.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? I tried both the old version and today v. 2.0 too, same problems.

Have I accidentally changed some system permissions that prohibits Alfred to execute these commands? :/

Of course I have already checked Alfred preferences, the System commands are all enabled/activated and should work.

I appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

If you launch Console.app and keep an eye on any error messages when you type the command, you might discover the cause. Post what Console tells you and we'll have a look :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  10. Hi all,

I've got an issue with symbolic link to app in my ~/Application folder: if an app is aliased, Alfred does not recognize the app and does not suggest it to me.

The ~/Applications folder is in the Alfred prefs and if I copy the app there, it's just fine.. The problem is really related to alias/symlink.

Is there something I can to do fix it ?

Details: Alfred v 2.0.3 (Moutain Lion)

While Vitor's solution can work in some cases, the more reliable way is to add the path of the apps you want to include into the Search Scope box in the Default Results preferences. :)

  11.

Hi! So, here I am again with another question regarding Spotlight comments...
I had a little issue with Spotlight comments after switching from Alfred 1 to Alfred 2, but those were resolved with build 2.0.2 (180) - thanks again to Andrew for the instant fix! Now Alfred 2 finds all my files, apps and folders with the corresponding Spotlight comment when I do a regular search. But there's one thing that doesn't work for me - I can't get Alfred 2 to recognize Spotlight comments in the "move to..." actions menu.

    To be more specific:
All my folders have Spotlight comments (abbreviations mostly, like "ss" for "screenshots" and so on) and with Alfred 1 I was able to do the following: in Alfred's actions menu I would choose "move to..." and then type "ss" into the search field. Alfred 1 would present me the correct folder ("screenshots") instantly and I could move the file to that folder. Alfred 2 on the other hand doesn't recognize any Spotlight comments in the "move to..." actions menu, he has no idea what I want when I type "ss" (or another Spotlight comment).

    Hi Anna,

Well spotted - this should actually be possible in v2 as well so I've added a ticket in for Andrew to look at adding this back in soon!

    Cheers,

    Vero

  12. Maybe :-) So Alfred behaves differently for you?

Ensure you have "random" switched off in iTunes, and set Alfred's iTunes Mini Player preferences (under Features > iTunes > Advanced) to use the Alfred playlist to ensure predictability.

If this doesn't work, check that Alfred is looking at the correct music library. Then launch the Mini Player and press Cmd + R to refresh your music library in Alfred.

Let me know how you get on :)

  13. Hi,

My ⌘ + (number) shortcuts seem to have suddenly gone missing in Alfred. I'm not sure what I happen, but I suspect I may have done something wrong in the Preferences. Any idea what could be going on or how to toggle these shortcuts on or off?

This could've happened in one of two ways:

    1. Check Alfred's Appearance options and whether you've checked "hide result shortcuts"

    2. Revert to one of the default themes, you may have imported a theme where the creator made the shortcuts transparent so that they seem invisible on their theme

    :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  14. Hi Ddyracer,

Thank you for your prompt reply but please excuse my ignorance.  In Alfred's preferences I cannot find Templates anywhere : (

Could you please point me in the right direction?

In order to use the Workflows feature, you'll need the Powerpack. You can see more info and buy the Powerpack on our website:

    http://alfredapp.com/powerpack

You'll then be able to use the workflows, which include hotkeys :)

  15. Hi guys and gals!

It's been so much fun watching you all create workflows and make them part of your daily habits. I'd love to feature some of the most useful or unusual uses for workflows on the blog. I've heard of one person who controlled their house lights with Alfred and others who created tools for their whole team. Bonus points for quirky and fun uses!

If you'd like to take part, please reply here and tell me briefly how you're using workflows. Ensure you've filled in your Powerpack email address in your forum profile and I'll contact a few for mini interviews (by email) over the coming weeks. I'll then feature these on the Alfred blog :)

    Cheers,

    Vero

  16. Any update on the sorting issue?  This is a great workflow, but not having the emails sorted by date does make this workflow less valuable.  For instance, I search for a subject, and the list returns a list of emails with the same or similar subject line (e.g., an email chain).  I know I want the latest email in the chain, but since the results are not in chronological order, things get messy.

There is no sorting as such as the workflow returns them in the order OS X feeds them back, but you can have a play with date ranges :)

You can create additional keywords and go to the file filter's advanced tab, where you can add a date range, e.g. one for today's mail, one for mail within the past 30 days.

  17. Maybe it can’t be labeled as an Alfred bug but it seems an important feature is missing to properly work with Apple scripts.

    Steps:

    1. Download the Test Workflow

    2. Double click Script Filter (the Language is /usr/bin/osascript)

    3. Escaping: there is Double Quotes but not a Backslash to check. Backslash also has a special meaning within an Apple script and it needs to be escaped.

    Test:

    1. bring Alfred

    2. type the workflow keyword zz

    3. typing a single backslash will freeze the workflow or the default Alfred search will take place

If you uncheck Double Quotes in Script Filter Escaping settings the same will happen.

This also happens if I use the language /bin/bash and the command osascript to run an Apple script.

Alfred 2.0.3 b184 is now in pre-release from the in-app auto-updater, including an improvement for this, so please update to test :)

  18. Not a huge deal, but a slight visual unpleasantness.

When displaying output with Large Text, if the text ends close to the end of a line, there is an extra new line that is added unnecessarily.

Maybe Alfred is adding a space or two of padding somehow?

Just thought I'd point it out. :)

Alfred 2.0.3 b184 is now in pre-release from the in-app auto-updater, including a fix for this, so please update to test :)

    1. Double click a link between blocks in a workflow
    2. Leave Action Modifier as 'none'
    3. Enter text into Modifier Subtext
    4. Click Save
    5. Double click the link again
    6. The text entered in (3) has disappeared

I understand that the Modifier Subtext may be irrelevent when the Action Modifier is 'none' (because the subtext is set in the keyword input config, for example), but perhaps it should be greyed out then, to make that clear?
