  1. @Andrew i know this isn't in the bug forum but I was able to reproduce @gregzacola's issue. It appears using arrow keys in the arrow cluster don't appear to dispatch properly. I didn't set up that elaborate list filter (which is a cool way to learn some shortcuts), but did set up a simple keyword to trigger the keycombo. I then assigned it to an action in moom. If I use modifiers with any other key it will work, but if I assign modifiers to something in the arrow cluster it won't. Is this by design for some reason or a bug?

  2. And just to add there are always many ways to get something done in alfred. If you did want to create something that mirrored Text Expander where you can trigger the workflow and have it paste in the frontmost app you could do something like this:

It uses a snippet trigger that then triggers 2 keyword objects to have you input your title and link, saves them as variables, and then pastes on the frontmost app. You can also look into dynamic placeholders as well. If the link want to paste is always the last thing you copied, you could set it up so instead of a 2nd keyword input, it pastes the most recent item in your clipboard history with {clipboard:0}.

  3. @kltjlt6458 just to chime in -- Stephen isn't telling you to trigger your alfred search but once your file is selected in finder, use the hotkey for your "universal actions." Your screen shot shows your are triggering you alfred hotkey for searching files. These are different hotkeys. It appears double tapping command is your hotkey to show alfred. This is not your universal actions hotkey.

Once you have selected you csv in the finder and triggered your universal action hotkey, which by default is "command + /" (with your csv selected in the finder) it should bring up a window that looks like this. In my screen shot I've chosen a gif file that was in my downloads folder and triggered the universal actions hotkey. You can then find you "Convert to Snippet Collection" action in the list.

  4. Vitor I don't know if this is an "issue" per say, but since upgrading to Sonoma (14.4.1) from Ventura I've noticed that when select the reaction I want, the display flashes. If I use the built in shortcut with messages (command +t) when the app is focused I don't get the flash. This occurs on both my M1 Mac Studio and my M1 MBP.

I'm attaching a little video -- is looks pretty subtle because of the screen selection and gif quality but wondering if you can reproduce. I'm guessing the flash is the "Launch Apps: part of the workflow? Is that right?

  5. I used to remember this -- but i'm accidentally keep hitting a mac keycombo that generates some diagnostics log file (i don't remember where it gets saved) but the keyboard shortcut must be close to one of my alfred shortcuts. This is what happens.... after I hit the keycombo, my display flashes like it is taking a screenshot and then it creates some diagnostics file (i'm still looking for it on my system).

Does anyone know what this keycombo and where the file is stored. I haven't done this is in a while but hoping someone may know what I'm managing to do by accident.

  6. @Stephen_C I agree with Vitor. I think the simpler the better!!! There is so much power in some of the built in objects that they are often overlooked until one reads the getting started guide, which not everyone is going to dive deeply into.

Here are some suggestions from me … they are things have have helped me squeeze more out of Alfred. It is often the simple things I use the most.

Just like Huey Lewis once sang, “The Power of File Filters”
    - a workflow that shows off how to narrow the focus of the search
    - i.e. choosing file types, scope, and search fields.
    - i have a couple of file filters that have kMDItemDisplayName with a pre-populated value. It took me years to discover this could be done!

Write Text File/Append to Text file
    - something that shows the hidden strength of these objects
    - something with variables that maybe append to files
    - something populates a new files with a snippet inside of one of these objects
    - man, snippets and this object are like peanut butter and chocolate!
    - something that uses a variable for the file path of a new file

Taking snippets to the streets (snippets aren't just for Michael McDonald)
    - all the places snippets can be used in a workflow
    - dynamic placeholders in snippets/workflows

  7. @Stephen_C -- this new series of yours is super fun and i'm sure helpful to so many users. Just spitballing here, but if you and the team plan on doing a bunch of these, maybe it should be broken out into its on forum heading for ease of discovery? I'm just thinking these posts will be buried in a week or two.

Again, I think it only makes sense if you plan on doing a bunch.

  8. I would see what vitor says, but if you are on Sonoma the default file filter settings vitor setup in the workflow should find .md files. It should look like the screenshot below. Know that if  you change settings the will get changed again to the defaults when the workflow is updated.

  9. @vitor I just came across this via Brett Terpstra’s blog and I wonder if this might be of interest to you and automation tasks: https://github.com/freedmand/textra. All of this is way over my head but it seems like they are leveraging apple’s API. I know you already extract text from a PDFs in automation tasks but I’m most curious about extracting text from audio files — especially if it is leveraging one of Apple’s APIs and works well.
