    I'm using version 2.8.6 (441).

I want to modify some of the built-in web searches, and there appears to be no way to do this.

[Moved this to Discussion & Help as this isn't a bug]

Default searches are globally available, and change dynamically based on the user's location (set in General preferences), providing the best results in the most predictable way possible.

Custom searches exist for precisely the purpose you described; As a way to create a customisable, non-globally available or more niche web search.

Let us know if you need help creating a custom search :)

I've been at it several times, unchecked the "eject" option in Preferences and selected the suggest option below. There are no external drives in the search scope, but they are still spinning up every time I launch Alfred. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Do you have any file search workflows that may be triggering as soon as you type one or two characters? As Andrew stated in his post from 2013, Alfred won't actively do anything to cause your drives to spin up, so either a workflow or inclusion in a search scope may be at the source of this.

    Hi!

I am currently testing Path Finder and would like to exclude Finder.app from my results. I tagged it with "alfred:ignore" and added it to the spotlight privacy tab but the app still shows inside alfred results (not in spotlight though).

Finder is included in Alfred's results and can't easily be removed. However, if you select the relevant results starting instead of Finder, it'll quickly disappear from your top results and show up further down the list so you can just ignore it :)

Thank you for the article. It was very useful. Is it possible to make a trigger to search for the specific tag but when the alfred window comes up, the results will be shown already in the window?

In that case, set the hotkey object as follows (where in this example, I want to search for the "test" tag)

    Screen Shot 2016-09-20 at 12.18.15.png

This will show the Alfred window with the text pre-filled in and the relevant results below (in this case, a single file tagged "test")

I have some rather large snippets that are a bit similar to one another. Is it possible to do a quickview of them when looking through Alfred? Similar to contacts?

    Hi Sean,

To preview a snippet, pop up either the Clipboard History viewer or set a hotkey for the Snippets Viewer (in Features > Snippets, set a hotkey). When you press that hotkey, you'll be presented with a list of your snippets on the left, and a preview of its content on the right.

It may just be a coincidence, but since I updated Alfred to 3.1.1 whenever I search for a folder, it no longer opens when I hit "return" as it used to. Instead, Alfred simply closes and nothing happens with Finder.

    Hi Jim,

Have you tried restarting your Mac? If you've used a Finder alternative (such as PathFinder), OS X may not know what app to use to present you with folders.  You may also find additional error information in Console.app.

    Just local unfortunately.

By default, if you're not syncing with Dropbox, your preferences will be found in your local user directory under:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 3/Alfred.alfredpreferences

Alfred doesn't delete/remove settings by himself, so did you use an app cleaner before updating to the latest build? If so, the app may have moved the old preferences in your Trash, thinking you're installing a whole new app. We don't recommend using app cleaners, as they can be over-zealous and delete essential files like these.

Let us know how you get on. For future reference, it's most likely worth keeping your preferences synced on Dropbox or your Mac backed up to Time Machine (or a similar automatic incremental backup) so that you don't find yourself without your most valuable data :)

I had an issue with Snippets where they stopped responding (3.1, 718).  It wouldn't work in any application anywhere.  I disable the accessibility and re-enabled.  The checked the Snippets.  Finally, rebooted and it was working again.  I'm on a laptop and very often suspend/resume and think this might be related, but this is, regrettably, a hard instance to track down.  I'll keep an eye on it and post anything further that I notice.

It's likely that you're experiencing the same issue as other users where secure input isn't released correctly by a plugin or app that requires it, and restarting your Mac simply reset the secure input. Next time, instead of rebooting, try quitting browsers to see whether it's a plugin like LastPass at the source of the issue. :)

Was excited because it actually worked but excitement was quickly dashed (about 5 minutes later) when I tried the exact same snippet in same document and it DIDN'T work.

Do I need to fill out a support ticket?

Could you please update to the latest pre-release (3.1.1) in Alfred's Update preferences? Once you've updated, go to the Snippets preferences, click the cog in the top right and, under Tweaking, check the box to slow down simulated key events.

Let me know how you get on :)

  10. i would like to navigate to a folder using ( / )and need to search a kind of file inside and get it to buffer . instead of navigating all the way to that folder which is 10 folder deep. how to do it ?

You could use the Dynamic File Filter workflow; Type the name of your workflow, set it as your preferred search folder, then search its contents.

You can add that workflow from the [+] menu in the Workflows tab, under Examples > Dynamic File Search :)

  11.

If you manually copy and paste something using Cmd + V in the app, does it paste as expected?

Do you use any other clipboard/snippet managers or keyboard modifying apps?

Also, if you create a second user profile on your Mac temporarily with nothing else installed, then follow the same steps, are you able to paste normally? :)

  12.

    Trying to get here:

    /Volumes/Secomba/main/Boxcryptor/Dropbox/e/GLS/Clients/IFFB/

...I search for "IFFB" but do not get the direct match. Instead I only get subfolder results like...

    Hi Aaron,

Does Spotlight find that IFFB folder? A quick look at Boxcryptor shows that it's an encryption/sync service, so I wonder whether there's something unusual going on with the folders that result in them not being found in the same way as a standard folder.

  13. Is Alfred snippets buggy with the Pages '09 version?

PS...I'm trying to embed a screen recording I did but can't find the right button here. Any ideas?

    recording here https://www.dropbox.com/s/zzu19umqtybqj2n/screenrecord-alfred%20snippet.mov?dl=0

Have you changed the Paste command from Cmd + V to something else? It looks like the snippet is correctly being recognised and deleted, but Alfred is unable to paste the snippet text.

    Vero
  14. But this does not work. Is there a way to make Alfred work with BusyContacts? Thank you.

    Hi there,

As Andrew says in his reply above, Alfred only has access to the contacts available via OS X's Contacts API, so you'll need to ensure your contacts are synced with your local OS X Contacts database for Alfred to be able to find them. :)

  15. Hi,

I just purchased the power pack and installed the two workflows from Packal that I really wanted: Evernote and Twitter. (The ones that are listed on the Alfred homepage).

For me they don't work. When I enter the keyword into Alfred (e.g., 'tweet' or 'enn'), 'search on google' overrules the keyword, replacing it with for example "Search Google for 'tweet'".

    Example: https://twitter.com/williamgill/status/773554034280173569

Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks!

    cheers

    Hi Will,

Could you take a look at the workflows you've installed and check first whether the keywords for the workflow match what you're typing? Secondly, if it does match, make sure you've set up the workflow correctly, as workflows like the Twitter one may require a little bit of setup (e.g. authenticating your Twitter account).

Alfred will only fall back on the web searches if there are no relevant local results, so as soon as your workflow is setup correctly, you'll be tweeting freely :)

  16. EXTERNAL TRIGGER and DISPATCH KEY COMBO

Is there any example of workflow using those new features ? Just to grasp the potential here.

You can take a look at an External Trigger example workflow within Alfred itself.

In the workflows preferences, click the [+] button at the bottom of the sidebar, choose Getting Started > Call External Trigger. The workflow is documented to help you understand what each stream of the workflow is doing :)

    Cheers,

    Vero
  17. OK got that - many thanks your help - appreciated

    :-)

Are you referring to the screenshots on the website where the text is too small?

Each workflow used in the website examples is available in Alfred itself. In the Workflows tab, click the + at the bottom of the sidebar, choose the Getting Started submenu and you'll find every workflow in there, ready for you to play with, as well as read in more details. :)

  18. But if you move the Alfred window it will stay where you put it the next time it appears.

Doesn't work this way for you?

In the preferences, under Appearance > Options (bottom left), you can set Alfred to "Save position when dragging main Alfred window", so fredster will need to do this to keep the window position the same :)

  19. I just bought the Powerpack and one of the main reasons was the 1P integration. Now I find out the 1P integration doesn't work with 1P's newest versions. (This was released back in the spring.) I know it is not your fault, but you should put a disclaimer on your powerpack page that this integration currently doesn't work for new users.

We added a notice on the 1Password bookmarks help page as soon as we became aware of the change, which you can see in bold here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/features/1password/

We're actively speaking to AgileBits, but hearing from their users as well will no doubt encourage them to make the feature a higher priority :)

  20. I use Alfred to redirect keyboard shortcuts, which are used for a graphics tablet. At school, I installed Alfred wit my activation code, but for some reason, I need to re-activate it almost every single time. Because of this, I have to ask the teacher, or someone in the school that I can find, to turn on the Internet so that I can activate the Alfred Power Pack. It doesn't sound that bad, but today, I had to wait for a total of 25 minutes before I could activate Alfred (for the two times I asked for the Internet to be opened).

Why is this happening and how do you fix it?

    Regards.

    Hi Keven,

Are you using different Macs every time? Or is your school clearing the Mac on logout?

The Powerpack license isn't really designed to be installed on Macs where you only have temporary access, which is why you might find that re-activation is needed.

  21. if another app copy a string on a clipboard i can't see the string on clipboard history. Example: open 1password and search a password click on copy button and i can't see the password on clipboard history

By default, password managers are excluded from Alfred's clipboard. You can remove 1Password from the clipboard exclude by going to Features > Clipboard > Advanced, selecting 1Password and pressing the backspace key. However, this means your password will be stored in plain text, so we don't encourage this.

when i copy a formatted text on clipboard, when i try to repaste the text loose the formatting. Example go to https://www.tinymce.com/copy the editor content, copy something else, delete the editor content and try to paste the first content on the editor.... the paste lose all formatting.

Alfred's clipboard is plain text by design, as in the vast majority of cases, users need to paste content that matches the destination formatting.

  22. Is there a way to import the snippets I've created in Text Expander into Alfred 3's snippets?

Also, how do I turn the off the sound it makes after typing out the snippet?

    Thanks

For your first question, you can use this wonderful Alfred user's import tool:

    http://alfred.danieldiekmeier.de

And for your second question, you can turn off the sound by going to the Features > Snippets preferences, clicking the cog in the top right and unchecking the box for "Play sound" :)

  23.  I have searched everywhere for an answer, but I can't find anyone else with this problem. Any idea why this isn't working?

As an update on my earlier post: We've been speaking to the 1Password team who confirmed that, at this time, it's not possible to use the web version with third-party tools. According to their response, they are planning on adding support for team & family vaults, as well as the web version, but couldn't provide a timeline yet.

To use 1Password's bookmarks with Alfred, you'll need to keep your passwords synced to 1Password for Mac in your standard vault, and enable the third party sharing.

    Cheers,
    Vero
