  1. @Sebastian Daza & @foamster As with any other file filters, there are a few things to look at first:

    1. If you search for these files in Alfred by using the "open" keyword, do they show up in results? If not, they may not be indexed or in the correct scope.

    2. Are you sure that the file filter's file types is correct? I believe users have reported before that latex files often have very odd/inconsistent file types so you may need to tweak this.

    3. Is the search scope correct so that your files are found?

You can take a look at a file's metadata by installing the Alfred Metadata tool below and dragging in one of your latex files:

    https://cachefly.alfredapp.com/tools/AlfredMetadataTool_v1.1.zip

Paste the results here and we'll be able to help you make sure your file filter is set up correctly :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  2. @politicus If all you want to do is use one specific set of Alfred 3 preferences, and you're using Dropbox, make sure that the correct prefs are fully synced to Dropbox on Mac #1. Then on Mac #2, give Dropbox sufficient time to fully download any file changes. On Mac #2, go select the SAME preferences as Mac #1 from Dropbox.

You will then be using the same, current set of Alfred 3 prefs.

    Vero

  3. @dschmuck You should've seen the migration assistant when installing v3, so you can rerun it by following these steps:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/getting-started/migration/

Note that this will reset your existing v3 preferences to defaults, so work out whether this suits you at this stage.

If you prefer to keep the existing v3 settings you've created since, you will need to manually migrate your v2 snippets.

    Vero

  4. @manoj The cog was removed as Alfred 3 allows much more flexible theming, and the cog interfered with some of this (in particular with rounded corners).

There are many different ways to access your Alfred preferences:

    1. In Alfred's search box: Type "preferences" into Alfred's search box to launch the preferences.
    2. From the OS X menu bar: Click on the bowler hat icon in the OS X menu bar in the top right and select "Preferences..."
    3. Using the Preferences shortcut: Show Alfred's search box and use Cmd + , (comma) which is the universal OS X hotkey for an app's preferences.
    4. Use Alfred Remote: In Alfred Remote, add Alfred Preferences from the + as a button to launch it with a touch.

    Vero

  5. @BonnieB and @urandom  Take a look at Alfred 3.2, which is currently in pre-release :) Here's an excerpt from the change log:

    Quote

    1Password Integration

    • 1Password integration updated to be compatible with 1Password 6.5+
    • Alfred now shows results from multiple vaults, including 1Password Families / Teams
    • All items are now shown from your 1Password
      • Logins are opened directly in your default browser
      • Other items (such as Secure Notes) are opened in 1Password mini

  6. @dschmuck Alright, if you've never synced, it makes it easier to establish where you'll find your preferences. You also mentioned in the email you sent that the issue likely occurred from the day you upgraded to Sierra, which further confirms that it's likely to be a permissions issue, as these are more common on OS X upgrades.

Launch your Time Machine backup, and navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 3/

Once you're in that folder, locate the Alfred.alfredpreferences file from Time Machine prior to your macOS upgrade, and copy it to your Mac and pop it in the same location on your "current" Mac, replacing the Alfred.alfredpreferences file that is there.

Restart Alfred, and he'll use the latest preferences you dropped in.

For snippets, launch Alfred to the Snippets prefs to see whether your list of snippets are listed there. If you need to re-enable accessibility to allow text auto-expansion, just follow the steps again.

With regards to Clipboard History, ensure that the feature is also enabled in the preferences so that new clipboard entries can be copied :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  7. @Mike Christofilopoulos There are a few things worth looking at when Alfred can't find apps on your Mac.

    1. Did you just install or upgrade to macOS? If so, OS X needs some time to index your Mac. You can check the indexing status by popping up Spotlight and typing a few characters. You'll see an "indexing..." status bar in the top left if it's not complete.
    2. Refresh the cache: Type "reload" into Alfred to force a refresh of Alfred's app cache. (Only applies to applications, not files in general)
    3. Can you find ANY apps? E.g. if you search for Safari or Mail, can you find these? If you can, the issue may be down to specific apps rather than Mac-wide.
    4. Can Spotlight find any of the apps Alfred can't find? If Spotlight can't find them either, you may need to reindex your Mac. To do this, follow step 4 of the indexing troubleshooting page, and check the box to "Delete ./Spotlight-V100" when prompted. This can take up to an hour. On completion, type "reload" into Alfred and search for your results.

Let me know how you get on.

I'll move this out of Bugs and into Discussion & Help as this isn't a bug with Alfred but rather an indexing issue on your Mac that should be easy to resolve :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  8. @Gordon Your best bet is to remove custom file types and paths from your default results, and use the "open" keyword instead (or press the spacebar as shortcut for it). In other words, you'll show Alfred, press the spacebar, followed by "Potter13.quicken2017" and your file will show up in the results.

It's much more efficient and clutter-free than including more file types into your default results. :)

If you expect to be opening that file regularly throughout a whole year, you could create a quick keyword-based workflow of a keyword object connected to a "Launch apps/files" and set the keyword to something even shorter like "p13".

    Cheers,
    Vero

  9. @lentaro Alfred's Contacts search doesn't include address details, as this would make your results significantly noisier.

However, for fun, I had a look at what metadata is provided in a contact card to see whether searching by address is possible so that I could create a File Filter workflow for you. Unfortunately, the address details are simply not exposed as metadata. The card metadata provides the name, email address, country and a few other bits of data, but no part of the actual address.

If you're curious to see for yourself, here's how you can perform an mdls on a contact:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/mdls/

  10. @dschmuck Hi there, welcome to the forum!

It looks like you may have two separate issues, so I'll explain how you can troubleshoot them separately:

    Clipboard history

You may be encountering some corruption to the clipboard history database on your Mac. You can type "clear" into Alfred and choose the "Clear clipboard history" option. This will re-create the Alfred Clipboard History from fresh, removing any permissions issues in the process. You will lose any existing clipboard history, but should be able to start with a fresh, functional slate :)

    Snippets

Do you sync your Alfred preferences? If so, it's possible that this is the cause of your snippets issue. First, launch Alfred's preferences to the Advanced tab and check whether your sync folder is still correctly set.

Assuming you're using Dropbox for syncing, do you use more than one Mac? Have you set one of them up recently? If so, it's possible that there has been a file conflict. You can recover your Alfred.alfredpreferences file from an older backup (e.g. Time Machine), but let me know if this scenario rings true and I can provide more details.

    Cheers,
    Vero

  11. @skillet Deanishe hinted at the two key possibilities to start from.

First, the possibility that the app IS in your results but your results are overwhelmed with too many other results:

If the app appears when you type "droplr" in full or any part thereof, then the app CAN be found. Start by taking a look at your Default Results and narrowing them to include these file types (or even temporarily exclude Folders if they're cluttering your results at this point)

    Screen Shot 2016-10-19 at 14.13.24.png

Search for Droplr with "dr"; Can you see it in results now? You can re-add the file types you need, but I'd recommend keeping your default results pretty clean, and using the "open" keyword (or pressing the spacebar as shortcut) to search broader file types.

Second, if with the settings above, the app never shows in your results, it may not be indexed correctly by OS X, and is therefore not returned as a result to Alfred. You can either:

    • Perform a full reindex of your Mac if you find that you've encountered any other indexing issues by going to Alfred's Advanced preferences and follow the instructions when clicking the "Rebuild OS X Metadata" button. This can take up to an hour, but will refresh the full index on your Mac, or;
    • Launch Spotlight to its "Privacy" tab, drag Droplr in, wait a few seconds, remove it from the privacy tab, then give OS X a minute or two to reindex it.

In both instances, please type "reload" into Alfred when the indexing is completed. This will ensure Alfred refreshes his application cache.

Let me know how you get on :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  12. @sinisa In answer to your suggestions:

    1. You can delete single items with Fn + Backspace
    2. This isn't planned, as the clipboard is intended to retain things you've copied, not to be an editor itself. Simply paste what you want to modify, and copy it again when you're done making changes.
    3. This is very much intentional, as the clipboard database could get much too large (as everyone likes turning the volume up to 11, users would set their clipboard to infinity even if it's not necessary, and wonder why the clipboard database becomes so unwieldy) As soon as an item is used or copied again within the three months period, its timestamp is updated and becomes available for a further three months.

If you need access to something for a longer period, it may be worth creating a snippet for it. To do this, select an item in your clipboard history and press Cmd + S to save it as a snippet. You'll be able to give it a name, a keyword and assign it to a category. :)

  13. @ileitch With the language set to "Default" in the dropdown menu, do you not see any results when typing, for example, "spell mouse"?

In both Alfred 2 and 3, this should work perfectly fine in Sierra, so there may be some corruption in your Dictionary itself. If you launch the Dictionary app, which languages appear at the top of your window? And can you search for any word and get the definition/spelling appear there?

Let me know and I'll see if I can help further, but this feature should work normally :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  14. @willbraden and @awaldraff Could you give one particular example, as suggested by @FroZen_X? Perhaps include a link to the workflow?

Some workflows simply need a little update to say they refer to Alfred 3 instead of Alfred 2, while others may be relying on deprecated APIs or sources to present results.

The more details you can provide, the easier it will be for us to help but broadly, workflows from Alfred 2 will work just fine in Alfred 3 without any changes.

    Cheers,
    Vero
