  1. @robert_muench Which version of OS X/macOS are you using?

You should see the second Alfred Text Service pop-up after the "Let's get started" one. Does this not appear for you once you click "Let's get started"?

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/features/snippets/#expansion

Open your Applications folder, right-click on Alfred 3 > Show Package Contents > in the Services folder, you'll find Alfred Text Service. You can drag this manually to the System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility section and ensure the box is checked.

You should then be able to check the box in Alfred's Features > Snippets to start expanding your snippets.

    Cheers,
    Vero

  2. @robert_muench I understand what you're trying to do. The reason I'm asking about cmd + v is that Alfred relies on the pasting function for snippets, so if default keys have been remapped, pasting may not be happening as expected.

Is snippet auto-expansion working in other apps, e.g. in a Text Edit file, on your Mac?

And when you try to auto-expand a snippet, what behaviour do you see? Do the characters from the snippet keyword disappear but the snippet content doesn't appear?

    Cheers,

    Vero

  3. @hawkmonitor Apologies, I misunderstood your issue - I thought you were having issues setting a specific hotkey, as I assumed you were using a hotkey-based template rather than a keyword-based one.

In your case, simply right-click the black background (the canvas) of your workflow and choose Trigger > Hotkey. This will add a new object to your canvas. Set your hotkey, leaving the Action and Argument as they are, and click Save.

You can then drag from the handle at the right of the new hotkey object and connect it into the "Open URL" object.  You'll now be able to launch your URL from either the existing "mail" keyword you've set or the hotkey. :)

Let me know how you get on.

    Cheers,
    Vero

  4. @evanfuchs Thanks for confirming. As suspected, there isn't a nice clean folder name, due to the way files are stored in iCloud.

If you frequently need to access a particular folder in iCloud, you could set up a little workflow connecting a keyword object to an "Open file" that opens the convoluted-named folder by using the simpler keyword you set. However, that makes an assumption that once set, the iCloud paths remain the same over time.

  5. @hawkmonitor Do you already have a hotkey trigger in your workflow? If so, double-click that object, ensure that the hotkey field is selected at the top, and type the hotkey you want to use. If you can't set the hotkey, it's likely already in use somewhere else, so choose an alternative hotkey.

You can find out more about creating hotkey-based workflows here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/workflows/triggers/hotkey/creating-a-hotkey-workflow/

If you need further help, please provide more details and we'll be happy to help you :)

  6. @evanfuchs Could you take a closer look at the path for the file? If you locate the file, press the right arrow, then choose "Copy path to Clipboard" and paste the resulting path here, it'll help me understand what the folder structure is.

Also, can you confirm that you can find the file and the folder when searching in Spotlight?

    Cheers,
    Vero

  7. @bmorgenthaler I'm not familiar with yubikey, but as far as Alfred's system commands go, we recommend using the "screensaver" or "sleepdisplays" command and set to "Require password" in OS X's Security & Privacy prefs instead of the Lock command, which has proven to be less reliable in the latest macOS.

Give that and try and see if you get the behaviour you prefer. You can then disable they "lock" command in Alfred and even rename one of the other commands if you prefer. :)

    Vero

  8. @tjhole Based on what you're describing, the first variable to remove is syncing via Google Drive using inSync to see whether this is getting in the way of preferences being correctly saved.

Could you please try setting your sync location to somewhere local (e.g. a folder on your Desktop), re-setting your clipboard history shortcut to the one you'd like to use, then restart your Mac to see whether your preferences are retained as expected?

Let me know how you get on. :)

  9. Hi @kyounoii

Alfred shows the "unable to contact update server" message if it's unable to reach our server to check for updates.

If you're on a network that limits access to our server, like some corporate networks, university networks or coffee shops, you may need to try from a different internet connection. Also, if you use apps like Little Snitch that restrict your internet traffic, please allow Alfred to connect, at least temporarily, but ideally permanently to allow for future updates.

If you're unable to activate, please pop us an email on info@ alfredapp com and we'll help you out further :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  10. @Lee Jackson Let us know how you get on with @deanishe's guidance. :)

If you'd prefer to revert to a whole set of Alfred preferences from Time Machine prior to deleting the snippets, and you are not syncing your preferences, you'll find the Alfred.alfredpreferences file in your user directory under

    ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 3/

First, copy your current Alfred.alfredpreferences from that folder to a safe backup location. Then quit Alfred and copy the whole Alfred.alfredpreferences file from your TM backup to  the Alfred 3 folder on your Mac.

Restart Alfred, and you should see all your snippets restored.

    Cheers,
    Vero

  11. Hi there,

First, I would encourage you to update to Alfred 3 from alfredapp.com as it's the current, supported version of Alfred. The free version of Alfred 1.2 from the Mac App Store is no longer maintained and can't be used with your Powerpack license.

As you're a v2 Powerpack license holder, you can upgrade it to v3 at a discount by entering your v2 details here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/powerpack/upgrade/

If you need your details re-issued, drop us a line on info@alfredapp com and I'll be happy to help you out :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  12. @mxtnr Alfred doesn't include all of the additional keywords for System Preferences panes, as this would add a huge amount of noise to the search results.

For example, these are all keywords for which the Energy Saver pref pane would appear, which includes a ton of useless terms:

    Quote

com_apple_system_prefs_keywords = "Sleep settings displays screens monitors brighten dim sleep wake shut down start up power on off electricity green save conserve conservation preserve environmental charge plug unplugged optimize performance processor automatic brightness black blank darkening dimmed dimming sleeping asleep waking awake awaken awakening shutdown shutting powering turn turning saving conserving preserving charged charging plugged plugging un-plugged unplugging un-plugging optimized optimizing optimization automated automating automatically Conserve restart startup starting re-start re-starting Restart after failure nap powernap Power Nap menubar Show battery status in menu bar"

If you'd like to show the Energy Saver preferences for the keyword "schedule", you can create a little workflow connecting a keyword to a "Launch Apps / Files" object, allowing you to launch using that particular keyword without adding unnecessary noise to your results. :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  13. @godbout Could you please try creating a new account on your Mac, keeping everything absolutely standard (no plugins, no third-party tools) and test whether you can replicate this behaviour?

If we're able to find a reproducible case, we may be able to help establish a workaround for this issue but as, at this point, we haven't had any other users report this issue, and haven't experienced it ourselves, it's very tricky to work out what could be causing this on your Macs.

    Cheers,

    Vero
