  1. Global hotkeys are now part of the workflows.

What do you want to link your global hotkey to? Create a workflow, then choose a hotkey from the Triggers list in the top right + button and an action you want the hotkey to perform. Connect the two and you're done :)

This is significantly more flexible than the v1 hotkeys, as the hotkey can trigger much more than just launching an app or file.

  2. After more investigation and experiments, it looks like the instances where users have had issues with syncing, they've been too quick at trying to set up their second Mac, causing Dropbox to get confused and create a corrupted file.

In summary, when setting up syncing, start with your primary Mac and let it sync fully up to Dropbox then fully back down to your second Mac. Rushing this will almost inevitably result in conflicting data in Dropbox and can be quite tricky to fix, so waiting an extra minute to ensure Dropbox has completed its sync will save you a lot of time :)

  3. Unfortunately syncing seems to be buggy with my setup:

Could you zip up the following:

the preferences that were created in your ~/Dropbox/Apps/Alfred 2/

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.runningwithcrayons.Alfred-2.plist

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.runningwithcrayons.Alfred-preferences.plist

    ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 2/

If you could email them to beta@alfredapp.com, we'll take a look to work out what could be going amiss :) Thanks!

  4. As stated in the announcement for this latest beta, if you've been using a cobbled-together hacked syncing method so far (there IS a reason we recommended against it ;) ), you'll need to first reset everything back to normal, remove any symlinking you had in place first.

I've been using syncing for testing purposes for about a week, using Dropbox, and everything's been going very smoothly, so ensure that you:

    1. Reset all preferences so that they are found in ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 2/ and remove any previously used sym-linking
    2. On your first Mac, go to Advanced and click "Set preferences folder..." and choose your Dropbox location so that the top of the window says "Copy your preferences into this folder"
    3. Ensure that Dropbox has time to sync to your second Mac
    4. On your second Mac, go to "Set preferences folder..." and go to the same Dropbox folder so that the top of that window says "Use the preference file already in this folder".

This should have you up and running with no problems :)

  5. We've just released b119 and spent most of the afternoon getting ridiculously excited over the latest additions. You can now create hotkey and keyword based iTunes actions.

    These include:

    • Hotkey to start playing a random album and post the details of it to Notification Centre
    • Rate track as ★★★★★ and post to Notification Centre
    • Clear the rating
    • And my favourite... "currenttrack" keyword to show what song's playing at the moment

Update to b119 and you can create your own too :)

  6. Syncing is coming soon to the beta - it's code complete but needs some further testing before we release it. Any hacky syncing like what you describe is unsupported and could easily resolve in weird behaviour.

In short, your best bet is to be patient and hold off just a little longer until we make syncing available baked into Alfred :)

  7. Ok. I reloaded and reindexed spotlight. It will find Chrome, Safari and Preview now. It still won't find iTunes however.

Try "Get Info" on iTunes and renaming it. Wait a moment then rename it back to iTunes. This will force Spotlight to reindex the data about that app.

I'm moving this to "Discussion" as this isn't a beta bug and I'd like to keep this forum as clear as possible to just v2 bugs.

  8. Have a look at the File Filter input type and select what file types you want to filter on. You can then connect this to the Open File action to launch whatever results you choose (optionally specifying what app to open with).

We'll be adding a few templates to make it quicker and easier to create your own soon, but the above should be good to get you started. :)

  9. Following on from what Andrew said above, your best bet is to create custom searches for your local language sites and changing keywords to be localised. The application itself, the support and documentation will remain in English only for the foreseeable future.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, and will lock the discussion if necessary.
  10. I'm having a similar problem with microsoft office applications. They are under /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/*. I've tried adding the path to the Search Scope but the applications are not showing up. In my case spotlight finds them correctly.

This is different to the iPhone Simulator issue, where there's no metadata at all (so no name or file type to search) vs Microsoft Office's apps which have metadata normally but may have become corrupted.

If you can't see the apps in Alfred, it could be due to your Mac needing to be reindexed. Spotlight keeps a cache of apps, so while the apps are found now, the cache would eventually expire and the apps will disappear.

You can rebuild your index by clicking the "Rebuild Index" button in Alfred v1's Advanced preferences (the shortcut will come to v2 later) :)

  11. After spending some time investigating this issue a few days ago, it appears that Apple have (either through a bug or conscious decision) removed all metadata for the iOS/iPhone Simulator app. As such, no amount of adding paths to the search scope will allow you to find it.

I've created a quick workflow which will allow you to launch it easily. The keyword is "iphone" but feel free to change this. You could also add a hotkey to launch with just a hotkey. :)

  12. As with version 1, Alfred simply tells OS X to open a given path and OS X uses the default Finder app. This can be Finder, PathFinder, Total Finder, etc... So you need to set Path Finder as your default Finder replacement.

It's possibly that you'll need to restart/log out to ensure OS X is fully aware that you want to use PathFinder, but Alfred will then respect that default :)
