morocons got a reaction from gandalfsaxe in Open current URL in Different Browser?
Here's a workflow that contains an AppleScript that grabs the current URL in Safari, opens it in Chrome, then closes the existing tab in Safari. I use it with a hotkey. It's my understanding that Firefox support for AppleScript is wonky at best, so I'm not sure how one would go about doing what you're looking for (in Alfred, at least).

It can be tricky finding workflows on the forum, so I thought it'd be a good idea to have a list of those true gems you just can't live without to help other users get themselves some great new workflows.

So let's hear about those four or five workflows that make a Mac feel broken when they're missing!

Workflow authors: no pimping your own wares; if they're that good, someone else will mention them

    Here are mine:
Dash by Bogdan Popescu. Search programming documentation with the Dash app. Couldn't code without it. So, so good. ssh by Robin Breathe (isometry). Open ssh connections without grubbing around in Terminal. MarkdownBulletin by Vítor. Convert Markdown to BBcode. Markdown rocks, BBcode sucks. Wrote this post (and all the others) with it. Chrome Bookmarks by Marat Dreizen. No more clicking around in Chrome's GUI, or trying to tell your bookmarks from your history in the URL bar. Application Chooser by Gabe Weatherhead. Search applications by tag. Don't use it often, but it's a true lifesaver when you can't remember the name of that app you rarely use but really, really need right now. As long as you remembered to tag it (which you will after the third time grubbing through /Applications looking for the darn app). Let's hear yours.

Note: the original version of this workflow utilized an unofficial API that Google Translate exposed. Unfortunately, the Google has shut down the API. There is an alternative workflow that uses the official (paid) Google Translate API that you can find here: http://www.packal.org/workflow/translate-api. It's actually pretty cheap.

Here's a little ditty that interfaces with Google Translate. The upside of this one is that it gives you access to all of Google Translate's languages (or at least about 80 of them). You can enable/disable languages from inside the workflow.

    Find it on Packal.

This workflow allows you to view and open iCloud tabs from all your devices (except the current one).

Unlike this workflow, my workflow also allows you to narrow the results using keywords. For example, entering "itabs apple iphone" will return only iCloud tabs whose page title or URL contains both "apple" and "iphone".

You can also quickly open all your iCloud tabs using keyword "alltabs".

This workflow allows you to view, open and add Safari reading list items.

    Features:
View all your reading list items (keyword: RL). Search for specific items: Entering "rl apple iphone" will return reading list items whose page title or URL contains both "apple" and "iphone". View (and search) only unread reading list items (keyword: RLU). Add new items to your reading list (using keyword RLADD or hotkeys). Open all unread items (keyword: RLALL).   Direct download   Packal page   This workflow uses the awesome Alfred Objective-C framework.   Updates: v1.1: Option to view only unread Reading List items (default keyword: RLU).
v1.2: Option to add new items to your reading list (keyword: RLADD).
If the currently active app is a browser (Safari, Webkit, Chrome, Canary and Chromium are currently supported), you can just press Enter to add the URL of its active tab.
You can also add URL's by typing or pasting.
The workflow uses AppleScript to add new reading list items, so it requires Safari to be running.
However, if Safari wasn't running, the workflow will quit it after it's done. (If you had no open windows in Safari, you won't even notice anything).
Additionally, the workflow checks if the URL you are trying to add is valid by trying to download the <head> element of the corresponding page. So if you are disconnected from the Internet, or the page you are trying to add is unreachable, the workflow will consider the URL as invalid and won't add it.
To make it add that URL without checking it for validity, use the modifier key (⌃).
v1.3: Option to open all reading list items (keyword: RLALL).
v1.4: The open all feature has been modified to open only unread items.
(You can still open all your reading list items (including the read ones) by pressing Option.)
      v1.4.1: Fixed a typo
      v1.4.2: Fixed yet another typo

morocons got a reaction from enloop in Safari Reading List Workflow?
Hi, everyone. I'm looking for help on building a workflow that, when triggered with a keystroke, would return a list of Safari Reading List items in Alfred. My understanding is that Reading List items are stored in Safari's bookmarks file, so the workflow would have to parse those items and then return them to Alfred, probably through a script filter?

I don't really script, so this is proving above my capabilities. I found this script (https://github.com/anoved/ReadingListReader), which seems like it would be useful, but I'm not sure how to go about incorporating it into a workflow that does what I'd like it to do.

    I'd appreciate any help. Thanks,

morocons reacted to Carlos-Sz in Pinboard 1.53 (Alfred 4): Search, Add and Delete Bookmarks
    Alfred 4

    Read about the workflow below.

Here is an update for Alfred 4: DOWNLOAD

NOTE: Right now the workflow does not support URLs with "#" in it.

    Overview

Pinboard workflow is a front end for Pinboard that allows you:
search filter by tags add public bookmarks add private bookmarks set a new bookmark as To Read delete a bookmark get the selected text as the bookmark description (see Syntax) interact with: Safari, Google Chrome, Google Chrome Canary, Chromium, Webkit and Firefox First Run

Before running the workflow you need to set your Pinboard API Token:

To get it go to your Pinboard account and copy the API in Settings>Password.

To enter it open Alfred Preferences>Workflows then select Pinboard then, finally, click in Configure Workflow and Variables (as seen below):

    Usage

If you need help show Alfred and type the keyword phelp

    Search

Search will always look for URL, title, description and tags.

    Basic search
show Alfred and type the keyword ps type your query e.g. ps apple Filtering by tags
show Alfred and type the keyword ps type a hash sign and select a tag from the list (autocomplete) e.g. ps #tag1 #tag2 : after the colon type your query e.g. ps #tag1 #tag2 :apple Actions
return key: open the bookmark option key: delete the bookmark (you may need to manually reload the local cache) Add

Public, Private and To Read Bookmarks

The workflow will list always two options:
Add Public Bookmark to Pinboard Add Private Bookmark to Pinboard Holding Command key will add it as an unread bookmark.

Note: make sure your Browser is the front most window then use the keyword pa

Note: Firefox may need that you reload the page. Anyway, the workflow always show the URL so you can check if it is right or not.

    Last Used

The workflow also saves the last command (Last Used item) so you can easily replicate. And with a hotkey you can add a bookmark even without any interaction at all.

    Syntax

You can optionally add tags and a custom description.

To add tags simply type a hash sign and select it from the list (autocomplete) e.g. pa #tag1 #tag2 :

After the colon, as seen above, you can optionally type the bookmark description e.g. pa #tag1 #tag2 :great workflow

And in order to get the selected text as the bookmark description type enclosed brackets after the colon e.g. pa [] or pa #tag1 #tag2 :[]

To add just a description just type it after the keyword e.g. pa great workflow

    Hotkeys

Search, Add and Last Used have also a hotkey that you can set in Alfred Preferences.

    Local Bookmark Cache

In order to make things a bit faster, the workflow caches all your Pinboard bookmarks and tags.

However, due even Pinboard API limitations the workflow will not, for now at least, update the cache automatically.

However, if your cache is more than one day older the workflow will let you know.

Anyway, you can use the keyword preload to manually update the local cache.

Finally, the workflow has an external trigger so you can update the local cache from other application or script. Just use the code below:

tell application "Alfred 3" run trigger "reload" in workflow "com.sztoltz.pinboard" with argument "" end tell Download

morocons reacted to djc in Alfred Tea Master: reference for tea information, without leaving Alfred
    Hi guys,

I made a workflow that serves as a searchable tea reference, with type, quantity, temperature and time, as well as ability to look at others within a teas type and start a timer.

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like to pull up a tea:

Don't be frightened by the ridiculous query, to get there, it's just as simple as:

    1) Pulling up the Tea Master using "tea"

    2) Going to either a category or search (in this case a search on "ch")

    3) Pressing the tea you want to pull up information for (bringing you back to the first photo).

    --------------------------------

The github page is here. If you have any additions (e.g. more teas!!) please pull request.
      Download the workflow here.

Star and/or comment below if you find it useful. Would love to get some feedback.

Well, if you ask like that… Revised version that:
handles non 7-bit ASCII characters (aka “what them foreignas use”) correctly, both as input and as output, handles phrases correctly (i.e. as phrases, not as multiple separate terms), adds a Paste into foreground application action (Cmd modifier), uses a central script file so that adding languages is a matter of adding a simple command to a new script filter (./translate '<language code>' '<language name>' "{query}"), is certified 100 % awk and sed free (you saw that coming, right?).
(note the Russian and Chinese translations have only been added to showcase the international support – by default, the workflow still only translates to French, English, and Spanish). As usual, repo is here, direct download here.

morocons reacted to Jono in Add reminders & tasks to Reminders.app
There are already a few Alfred workflows out there for adding reminders and tasks to Reminders.app. Mine is about quickly adding tasks to different lists by typing the first letter of the name of the list, then the task or reminder.   Usage
Here’s some examples:       Typing ‘w finish the report' would add that task to the list named Work. Typing ‘r pick up dry cleaning sat at 6:30pm' would add that task to the list named Reminders with an alert set for 6:30pm on Saturday. Typing ‘g milk' would add that item to the Groceries list.   Because of my OCD the workflow will automatically capitalise the first letter of the task The workflow uses the best parsing engine, Fantastical's, so you’ll need to have that app to be able to use this workflow.   To show all of your lists type +r in Alfred       The workflow shows Notification Centre messages when items are added       Holding down the Option key when hitting Return it will open up the item in Fantastical. Otherwise hitting Return (without Option) will add the task without showing Fantastical.   Download: Add Reminders Alfred workflow   Setup The workflow comes with some pre-named lists:   Reminders Home Work Study Groceries   In the workflow editor delete ones you don’t want or duplicate them to create more. To rename the lists to match yours open the script part of the workflow ‘Run NSAppleScript’ on the right hand side and change the name and list colour (for Notification Centre) at the top between the double lines. To change the colour of a list icon shown in Alfred open the keyword part of the workflow (left hand side) and drag the icon from the ‘Alfred - Reminders List Icons’ folder into the image well.   The workflow uses MountainNotifier for the Notification Centre messages. Once downloaded place it in /usr/bin/   To do this, in Finder’s menu bar select Go > Go to Folder… (or hit Command-Shift-G) and paste in: /usr/bin/   Then place the ‘Automation’ folder (inside the ‘Notification Centre’ folder) in your ~/Documents folder.   (Ignore this if you don’t want to see Notification Centre messages.)     The idea for the Reminders list icons was blatantly pinched from LaunchBar 6
