  1. Thanks for this workflow! I've been waiting for something like this I was just wondering which Netflix country this searches? I tried to search for something that I know is listed in Canada, US, and the UK, and I tried switching my VPN to servers in those countries, but it doesn't show up in this workflow. Is there an easy way to switch the country? It would be great if this could somehow be used to check the availability in different countries.
  2. I'd be interested in setting this up a folder of ebooks I have - could you let me know how you did it? I changed the directory to my ebooks folder, but I'm getting an error that says the file is an invalid json file so apparently I did something wrong to it
  3. After your comment, I checked the template I had set up and you're absolutely right - all accented characters (and perhaps other characters) are not rendered properly. Thanks to your clear instructions, I set up your alternative method, and I can now copy and paste from the preview. The idea that the rtf template method doesn't work as expected, however, is just the kind of thing that will niggle at me until I figure out how to fix it This type of issue is why I've avoided latex - the "brief" start I made had me spending hours trying to work out the smallest of details. This is my method of procrastination. Thanks for your help setting up BibDesk!!
  4. Thanks for checking, Andrew! It sounds like a lot of work and, given that the benefits are so minimal, I can see that it's not worthwhile. But I appreciate you looking into it! I tried importing a reference into BibDesk with your workflow and it was incredibly easy. Haven't been able to set up the APA export though. I've installed tex, set the preview to apalike, tried setting it to copy as RTF. To get the reference to copy in the way you describe, did you have to use a custom template? For those out there who are new to BibDesk and want to take advantage of this workflow, this is how to get APA styled ref's from BibDesk: 1. Create an rtf file from one of the styles templates found at http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/bibdesk/index.php?title=Templates 2. To get the italicized text, etc. You have to italicize the corresponding fields in the rtf file you just made. 3. Add it as a template, then choose to "copy" as your template in the pref's. It took me a while to figure it out but it's really not that bad. I think I'm going to love BibDesk. Katie Edit: Maybe it's no so straightforward as I thought. I'm trying to import this ref (http://bit.ly/1i4syOB) to BibDesk using the book keyword. But nothing is copied to the clipboard or added to BibDesk.
  5. Andrew, Oh, I see what you mean. I'll think about whether using BibDesk is worth the time savings at this point. Thanks for you help and advice! Katie
  6. Thanks, Andrew! I keep all of my papers in Papers2 but the reference and citation information is so bad and unreliable that it's pretty much useless so I don't use their magic manuscript (citation) functions. They don't support major Psychology databases so I had to rely on their Google Scholar import, which had some problems (e.g. the last author of every reference is not imported). I've "been meaning to" go back and make sure the citation information is correct but the truth is that I will probably never get around to it: I have a large library and I'm close to the end. I've been thinking about moving my papers to another program, so thanks for the tip! I'll check it out to see how much work/time it would take to move my library over. Even though some references I get via this workflow require some fixing at times, it's never been outright wrong about the paper. So I love it! I've already started showing it off to my supervisor Thank you for sharing it!! Katie
  7. Thanks, Stephen! I'll look more closely at it when I have more time! Katie
  8. I love this workflow so much. I'm using it to build my reference section as I write (I know, manually building it is not the most efficient method but I'm too close to the end to change my habits now ). I'm not sure if it's possible or not, but the following would make my life a little easier: 1. When I grab a formatted reference, it comes out like this: Lehman, D. R., Chiu, C., & Schaller, M. (2004). Psychology and Culture. Annual Review of Psychology, 55(1), 689â714. doi:10.1146/annurev.psych.55.090902.141927 Is there someway to allow rich text formatting so that italicized text gets italicized and to get the dash between page numbers to come out properly? 2. APA formatted citations for the other methods... I know this is probably too complicated. And these things don't really matter, I'm already saving time by using this workflow. Thank you so much for sharing!! Katie

  11. I deleted the keychain access item, revoked Pocket access, an re-installed the workflow. Now it seems that Pocket is having trouble re-authenticating. The authorization page comes up but when it's clicked, it leads to a blank page and doesn't do anything/doesn't authorize the workflow. Here's the bug text that came up: Starting debug for 'Pocket for Alfred' [ERROR: alfred.workflow.input.scriptfilter] Code 0: 16:55:15 workflow.py:619 DEBUG Cached data saved at : /Users/katie/Library/Caches/com.runningwithcrayons.Alfred-2/Workflow Data/com.fniephaus.pocket/pocket_request_token.cache
  12. Hi, This seems great! Does it require the application? I don't have it installed and am getting an error even though my Pocket account says that the workflow is authorized: Katie
  13. Thank you!! That actually does help. A lot. I had tried looking it up but the result was a lot of jargon about handlers - you made it seem really simple. Thank you for taking the time to solve the problem. And thank you for your efforts to teach me; I really appreciate it!
  14. Thank you! It does work now and that's what I intended to use it for. Not really sure why though - if you don't mind me asking, does this mean that the code was wrong when running as a service or does it mean that you always have to remove those kind of lines when putting an applescript into Alfred (using the osascript option)? I don't know any programming languages but I do like finding scripts online and customizing them...and I don't want to resort to asking for help all the time so maybe I can learn something from this
  15. Sorry about that! I was trying out a new file sharing service since my Dropbox is getting kind of crowded. The links should work now.
  16. Hi everyone, I'm trying to convert an applescript I had set up as a service to an Alfred workflow, just because I like the idea of having all these custom tweaks in one place This is the applescript: http://bit.ly/1iu2nal This is the workflow: http://bit.ly/1gliP5H I set the hotkey to be ⇧⌘> (this is the same keyboard shortcut that I had set up to call the service). I'm not sure if it's not working because you can't just copy and paste an applescript into an Alfred workflow like this or because my hotkey isn't working or both. I did a clean install of Maverick's over the weekend and haven't changed any of my default keyboard shortcuts, if that helps. I'd really appreciate some help, Katie Edit: Updated download links

    Shiori Style

Description: A theme based on the app Shiori, which has an Alfred-style interface for searching your Pinboard bookmarks (and a solid interface for adding bookmarks). For those who use Shiori, you can drag the sides of the application to make it match whatever window size you use for Alfred. Helvetica is actually the most Shiori-like font but I've used Courier because I find it easier to read. Supporting options: Uncheck Fade in Alfred window, Hide hat and prefs cog. Preview: Download: From Packal at Shiori Style
  18. I was pretty sure I was doing it wrong. Thanks for showing me how it's done! This works just like I hoped it would
  19. I'm glad you found a solution that works for you! I never thought of having multiple sets of bookmarks, but it sounds like a good idea… I just wanted to note that I think it can be implemented in the workflow I'm using as well. In the awesome and detailed instructions that Vítor gave me, you are able to set up as many searches as you want by defining which tags to search. So, using the example you gave, you would choose to search the "google" tags with any keyword you like. In this case it wouldn't be necessary to use tgoogle to search because it would only search the bookmarks that have a tag of "google". You then can choose any keyword like "setone" "settwo" or "bk1", instead of having to type multiple keywords. I'm not sure at this point if it can do multiple tag searches, but it can probably do bundle searches. Right now, I've set up the workflow so I can search unread pins, starred pins, and all of my pins, but I'll think about adding some other tag groups! Thank you for pointing that out!
  20. Does anyone know how to make this into a workflow? I tried pasting it into a run script with the ruby option selected, but nothing happens. Would it be possible to easily modify it to choose the number of words you want in the phrase? I'd appreciate any help!
  21. Right now, the user can assign (1) search with default web search, (2) search with spotlight, (3) reveal in Finder (if local), and (4) action visible results to enter pressed with the three modifier keys (⌃, ⌥, and ⌘). I think it would be great if we could have more customization here. I'm not sure how to explain so I'll just write out what my preferred set up for files and folders results would be in an ideal world: ↩ alone: open file, or show files inside if results is a folder ↩ + ⌘: reveal file in finder, or open folder (instead of the folder's container to show folder's location) ↩ + ⌥: send path of enclosing folder to open/save dialogue if result is a file, send path of folder to open/save dialogue if result is a folder ↩ + ⌃: go back up the folder hierarchy (useful if allowed to drill down into folders in the results) Some other options, could be shortcuts to often-used file actions, like "open with...", etc. Or, to get really complicated, one of the options could be to run a script. I imagine it to be something like this in the preferences: result is file result is folder ↩ alone: [dropdown menu] [dropdown menu] ↩ + ⌘: [dropdown menu] [dropdown menu] ↩ + ⌥: [dropdown menu] [dropdown menu] ↩ + ⌃: [dropdown menu] [dropdown menu] ↩ + [other modifier keys]… etc. Where [dropdown menu] options are: open open in Alfred results (not possible for files) return to enclosing folder in Alfred results reveal send path to open/save dialogue send path of enclosing folder to open/save dialogue open with... copy path copy file run script... etc. I think this would improve Alfred by allowing users to set the actions they do most often to the quickest method possible. It could be because I'm new to Alfred or because I heavily use Alfred to navigate my very structured folder hierarchy… but I find that going through the file browser and file action areas takes a long time and is kind of unintuitive. Maybe I'm not used to it yet. (I know that I can press ⌘+↓ to change to the file navigation system). Maybe these things could be done with a workflow, but I have zero coding experience and my first attempt - for something much simpler - was kind of a failure. It could also be argued that different actions for files and folders is too confusing or complicated, but when starting with Alfred I found that I expected this behaviour and had to teach myself the Alfred way. I understand that this may not be possible or that others may not be interested in this, but I hope you will consider this idea. I think it would make Alfred perfect for me so I had to ask! Just in case it's possible. If anyone reading this has any suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing about them. I searched the forums for solutions but didn't find too much.
  22. I'm not sure if you found a solution to this, but I found one so I thought I would share it with you. I signed up for Pinboard (with a small one-time fee). Then I put all of my "favourites" (your predefined list of bookmarks) in it and starred them. Then I modified Vítor's wonderful PinUnread workflow to search starred bookmarks on Pinboard. The starred bookmarks show up when the keyword is entered, and then I can use arrow keys to launch (or copy the link to the clipboard) or I can type more letters to refine the search.
  23. Wow, Vítor, I don't even know what to say except thank you so much: For your detailed explanation of how to fix the problem and of how the workflow actually works, for your effort in writing it all up so thoughtfully, and for taking the time to help me with something that you weren't necessarily interested in doing yourself. I followed every step exactly and now I can search both unread and starred bookmarks. I've also gained a deeper understanding of how it works so I think I could modify it if I ever needed to search another section of Pinboard. Thank you!! I am so grateful. I am also really sorry to inconvenience you just for my own specific wants… but given the nature of the changes and that I don't think I could do it myself… I'm just so appreciative of your help!
  24. Sorry, Vítor, I must have inadvertently broken something. I wanted to keep the original functionality you made so I tried to copy and paste the same code into a new keyword "node" and change the url you told me about in the new keyword node. I linked the new node to both of the script action nodes that are linked to the pun node. Everything seemed to break after that…now I can't get it to do anything. I re-downloaded your workflow and it replaced the mess I made, then re-configured. I even reset my api token thing on Pinboard, and re-configured that. (I'm sure the new token works because I had to input it into PinAdd). But after all that, the pun keyword in Alfred just does a default web search. I've tried re-downloading the workflow several times and restarting my computer…not really sure what else to try. Is it possible that deleting the workflow and re-installing doesn't actually delete everything?
