Kennon reacted to zachahn in TablePlus workflow for Alfred 5
Hello! Here's a workflow I built for launching your saved TablePlus connections.

Home page: https://github.com/zachahn/alfred-tableplus-workflow Download link: https://github.com/zachahn/alfred-tableplus-workflow/releases/latest
I'm really happy with it since it only relies on utilities that come built-in with your Mac, and since it has only two "nodes" on the canvas and less than 50 lines of code (as of this post). This simplicity should equate to speed and to reliability since there's less to run and less that can break.

I'm not the first to have built a workflow like this! Here are the alternatives I'm aware of that might suit your needs better:

So the simplest solution here is to use their URL scheme. If you create a Custom Web Search, you can input this URL and search easily that way.

    things:///search?query={query}

Kennon reacted to eknkc in Pinboard Search Workflow
    Hi,

I just created an alternative Pinboard workflow that allows searching for pinboard bookmarks within Alfred. It can fetch data asynchronously, so there should not be delays during searches and the matching code has some fuzzy logic. Might come in handy for Pinboard users so I wanted to share.

NOTE: It requires Node.JS to be installed. Please get it from http://nodejs.org if you dont have Node.

    Keywords:

pinboardauth username:TOKEN <- set access token (get it from https://pinboard.in/settings/password)

pb query <- search for query
pbunread <- items in read later list
    pbreload <- force data reload

Hold cmd while selecting a bookmark to copy it's url to clipboard.
Hold ctrl while selecting to delete a bookmark from your pinboard.

    Workflow:
    http://d.ekin.io/L6QO

    Source Code:

Kennon reacted to vitor in PinAdd — Takes arguments as tags, and adds your browser’s frontmost tab as a pinboard bookmark
This workflow is officially deprecated in favour of PinPlus. It was released to the public domain, so I leave the record here if anyone is interested. You can still find the old source on Github.

Before using this workflow, you need to configure it with your Pinboard account by running :configurepinadd followed by your api token and your preferred browser.

You can get the API token of you Pinboard account by visiting https://pinboard.in/settings/password

Your preferred browser may be one of Safari, Webkit, Chrome, ChromeCanary, Chromium, or depends (“depends” uses the browser you have as the frontmost window, provided it’s one of the mentioned ones).

An example configuration would be: configurepinadd username:HSJWJK2HHSKI14QPDOIK safari
When you’re all set, call pin followed by your tags and/or description — both are optional, and descriptions must be preceded by // (two forward slashes and a space). Pick if it should be added as a regular bookmark or as a private one (this is important, as it’ll trump your default options), and you’re done.

The title of the bookmark will be the title of the page.

You can also precede your tags with . (a single period), and it will add the bookmark as unread.

There’s also a hotkey you can setup to quickly add bookmaks as unread (without any tags or description).
If adding a bookmark fails for any reason (for example, if the connection drops), you’ll get a notification and a PinAddRetry.command file will be added to your Desktop (if it happens multiple times, it’ll add an entry for each failed attempt). You can double-click this file at a later time to run it, and retry adding the bookmarks.

Kennon reacted to R4z3r in TV Show Information Workflow — via TVRage
    Hi Everyone,

I've been working on putting together a TV show information workflow that will get you information about the TV show that you are searching for. I have it currently setup for two different options of handling it. This workflow shows you the Show Name, Show Status (Returning, On the Bubble/TBD, or Cancelled), and (depending on the status) air time, air day, and network or number of seasons it ran for on what network. See github for the most recent version, code, and configuration options.

To switch between 12-hour time and 24-hour time, use the keyword:
    enable12hr
    or
    enable24hr

These will switch whether the script displays 12 or 24 hour time.

    Current Version: 1.0

    Option 1:
Use the 'tv' keyword in the Alfred prompt to begin the workflow, then type the name of the TV show that you would like to search for and it will return the information about that show to you in the window. Pressing "Return" on the keyboard will open TVRage to the show's page. Option 2:
Use a hotkey of your choice to pass your current text selection to the workflow and begin the search as above.
Known issues that I am working on or that I am looking to add:
TV Episode search (so you can find information about specific episodes) — BETA 12 hour time version (currently, time is displayed in 24-hour time) Fix "seasons" on cancelled shows to correctly match singular or plural numbers Add easier timezone support. Add Alleyoop Suport

    Overview

Workflow to display recent Finder files and folders featuring:
5 default categories 2 custom categories Favorites, including a file action Keywords and hotkeys for Favorites and all categories apart Interaction with Open/Save dialogs and Finder Go To Folder Preview, reveal, open or use Alfred file actions Usage

Show Alfred and type the keyword rec:

You can also use the category keyword if you prefer to access the recent files directly, without an initial menu:
Now: keyword now Folders: keyword fol Applications: keyword apps Documents: keyword docs Downloads: keyword dow Custom Category 1: keyword c1 Custom Category 2: keyword c2 Favorites: keyword fav In addition, there is a hotkey for the keyword rec, Favorites and all categories apart.

Note that all keywords, as well as the hotkeys, can be changed (go to Alfred Preferences > Workflows).

Finally, once inside a category you have the following actions:
Return key: open the file or folder Command key: reveal the file or folder in Finder Option key: pass the file/older path to an open/save dialog or Finder window Control key: add/remove an item to/from Favorites Shift key: preview (Quick Look) the file or folder Custom Categories

You can set up to two custom categories:
Show Alfred and type the keyword recpref Select a category to configure and press return key Type an unique category name with at least 3 characters Type one or more (separated by comma) file types e.g.: com.adobe.pdf,public.plain-text To find a file type you can use Alfred Metadata Analyzer.

To remove a custom category press command key while highlighting one of them in recpref.

    Favorites

All files or folders set as a favorite item will remain in the list no matter how old they are.

To add an item to Favorites just highlight a file or folder, hold control key and press return key.

To remove an item go to Favorites, highlight an item, hold control key and press return key.

You can also add items utilizing Alfred File Action (accepts multiple files).

Note that Favorites has also its own keyword (fav) and hotkey.

Interacting with Open/Save Dialog or Finder

You can pass a recent file or folder path, or an item in Favorites, to an open/save dialog or even the current Finder window to go to that folder:
when an open/save dialog is displayed type the keyword rec or any other category keyword find an item (a file or folder or an item from Favorites), highlight it, hold option key and press return key wait a bit so the workflow can load and paste the item path Default Folder

The workflow remembers the last path used per application. To use the feature just type the keyword df when an open/save dialog is displayed.

If the workflow was never used for the application, or the path does not exist anymore, then the keyword rec will be automatically triggered so you can select a path from a file or folder.

There is also a hotkey to make things even faster.

Make sure to give the feature time to process because e.g. if you hold keyboard keys way too long then the feature may not work as expected.

Kennon reacted to canadaduane in Dropbox Short Links Workflow
For any file in your Dropbox folder, this workflow shows the dropbox short link URL (e.g. http://db.tt/1LkWGVJF) and copies the link to the clipboard (Cmd+Shift+D):

    1. Select a file in Finder (must be a file within your Dropbox folder, e.g. ~/Dropbox/Photos/MyPhoto1.jpg)
    2. Press Command+Shift+D
    3. Authorize the workflow to use the Dropbox API (only if this is the first time)
    4. The shortened link pops up and is copied to the clipboard.

It uses OAuth in the background to connect to Dropbox so you can authorize the Alfred 2 Workflow without storing passwords insecurely. For those who are interested, it starts a Ruby-based local web server using Sinatra which is then opened in the default browser. You can authorize the Dropbox app in your browser, and then the local server shuts itself down. Once authenticated, you don't need to do this step again.

Once connected via OAuth, this workflow has the potential to do a lot of things with Dropbox, but currently only queries the dropbox service for shortened URLs. This method (using OAuth/dropbox) has the advantage that any file in your Dropbox folder can be shared, not just those in the "public" directory (a deprecated method of accessing dropbox files).

The downloadable workflow itself is here (on dropbox, naturally):

http://db.tt/1LkWGVJF http://db.tt/A3eZqMAr (new version, fixes direct linking to folders)   And the github repository is here: https://github.com/canadaduane/alfred2-dropbox   Duane

Kennon reacted to tomhunt in AlfPT - Alfred Package Tools (Workflow Installer/Updater)
    UPDATE by Vero (Alfred's mum):
The AlfPT site was a pilot project for an installer/updater by Tom Hunt and is no longer available.

AlfPT was a wonderful idea by an Alfred user, Tom Hunt, to create a way for workflows to be updated and gathered in one place. However, Tom has decided to take the project offline (due to school/work commitments and the bandwidth requirements of that project). As such, documentation in this thread is now outdated.

    Here's what's coming soon:
    - Other users are working on their own repositories for workflows
    - We are working on an official v2 Extras site, which will include curated workflows (which we've tested and checked) and themes

We'll also be publishing a few blog posts with our favourite and your favourite workflows very soon, so keep an eye on the blog for the links to the above!

Introducing AlfPT - the easy way to install and update your Alfred v2 Workflows.

    Download the AlfPT workflow here

    Workflow Users

Once you've installed AlfPT use the following commands:

alfpt install {query} :  to find new workflows to install
    alfpt install {query} -a {author} -b {bundleid} : filter results by author/bundle id. Both flags are optional.
alfpt update : to list any workflows you've installed through AlfPT that have new versions available. Select one to update.
alfpt update -f : to list all of your workflows, regardless of whether there are new versions available. Select one to update.

    Workflow Developers

Want to get your workflows into the repo?

Visit the AlfPT homepage to register and start uploading workflows.

If there are any files in your workflows that you do not want to be overwritten during the update process (config files and the link) prefix them with an underscore e.g _icons

It's very likely that the AlfPT workflow will be updated regularly over the next few days so keep alfpt update-ing to get the latest release.

If you run into any problems just let me know.

    Happy workflowing!

Kennon reacted to CarlosNZ in What to do when you want script filter for certain parameters and not others?
    Hi all,

just wondering what people think is the best thing to do in this situation.  I'm working on updating my EggTimer  extension to work nicely with Alfred 2. I've got it working pretty much as in V1, but I'm now trying to incorporate the script feedback capabilities to display running timers in Alfred's window:

As you can see, I've used the keyword "stop" here, for the user to select a timer to stop running. However, all the other controls for this workflow start with the keyword "timer" (eg timer repeat, timer 5 Do something.., etc.) and it seems a little off having to create a separate keyword for a script filter. Ideally, you could use "timer stop" to launch this feedback, but there's no way to get a script filter to only respond to a specific argument and behave like a normal script in other circumstances.

    Things I've tried:
Set the regular script keyword and the script filter to the same keyword: "timer". However, this looks a bit weird, and the default "regular" option is not always the top of the list, so I think it's too confusing to work nicely. Make the script filter keyword start with the same keyword, eg. script filter keyword is "timers". This is probably my best bet at this point, but it bothers me a bit because it's inconsistent with the other commands. What would be really cool is if Alfred could do this:

i.e. the argument from a regular keyword input can become the trigger for a subsequent script filter. I wonder what the chances of this happening are?

Assuming that won't be happening any time soon, I wonder what other people would recommend for this kind of thing. I'm sure I won't be the only one to have to deal with it. For example, when (if?) @jdfwarrior updates his Alfred+Tasks extension for V2, he'll probably have the same issue, where some commands (eg. "do list" would generate a feedback list) whereas others wouldn't (eg. "do task").

Just wondering what y'all think. Cheers.

I would highly doubt that Alfred would ever support this but it could be done with extensions/workflows. I made the Extension Updater for Alfred 1.x. I'll probably try to get something similar going again this time, I just haven't had a chance yet.
