  1. Hi. After installing macOS High Sierra I noticed immediately that Alfred was performing slowly by showing a clear keystroke lag when typing in your search term into Alfred and Alfred's ability to return results. Before upgrading to High Sierra, Alfred was working perfect. What you were doing when the issue happened: I initiated Alfred and starting typing. Able to replicate the issue: Yes Screencast: http://take.ms/UYGqX Alfred version & build number: v3.5 (876) OS X version: High Sierra 10.13 Can you please advise if there is anything I can do to fix this issue? Thanks, Jason
  2. After upgrading to High Sierra there's a lag of almost 1s after every keystroke in Alfred making it unusable. It doesn't matter if it's app search, file search, or clipboard search. Meanwhile Spotlight is instant. I've left my Mac on for days at a time so Spotlight should have finished reindexing as per https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ But does clipboard search even use Spotlight? Sometimes Alfred is fast and responsive, but then it goes slow again. I haven't found any correlation with what causes it to be normal / slow. There's no mds related process running that I can see, just the mystery "kernel_task" thats often about. Latest Alfred v3.5 [876]. Latest macOS 10.13 (17A365)
  3. Hi all, I updated to High Sierra 10.13. Now I'm experiencing crazy lag when launching Alfred. For example: cmd + space to launch, typing "notes" is painfully laggy. Not sure what can be done but wanted to report an issue. Is anyone else having this problem?
  4. Running High Sierra 10.13.1 (17B35a) Alfred 3.5 [876] Lately, Alfred has become extremely slow and laggy. I bring up Alfred, and after each keypress have to wait a second or two before the next keypress registers. It's bordering on unusable. I try to think back to when I first noticed the slowdown, and I'm guessing it was around the time I updated to High Sierra, but I don't know if it's connected. I found a similar thread about Alfred 2, and have tried all of the suggested steps - I have disabled the eject commands, disabled all workflows, rebuilt the metadata, and disabled all but the most useful features to me. It continues to run at a snail's pace. Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? Is there anything else that I can try to speed things up? Is there any more useful info that I can provide you to help get to the bottom of this? Thanks!
  5. I'm on the public beta of High Sierra and I'm seeing input lag when typing into Alfred. Tried clearing preferences and re-installing. Could it have to do with the new file system? Update: Changed my Alfred theme from "Alfred Default" to "Alfred MacOS" and the lag went away. Seems to be related to graphic assets?
  6. I found this thread: Which is exactly what's happening to me, however I see that it's listed as closed and fixed in version 3.4.1 b858, but I'm on 3.5 build 875 and still seeing it. My config: MacBookPro11,4 (15" Retina - Mid 2015) 16 GB RAM High Sierra 10.13 (17A405) Alfred 3.5 build 875 Just wanted to let you know that it's still happening. Switching to Alfred Mac OSX theme did resolve the issue, but Frosty Teal (which I was using) is very slow. Cheers, Emery
  7. Hi, all, Should I adjust the theme blurness to "None" or "Max" direction to get rid of the lag? Thanks.
  8. I am trying to figure this out. I'm on a 2017 MacBook Pro with Touchbar. I have tried different themes like Default, Frosty Teal with no Blur, macOS Sierra theme. When I type things into Alfred, it seems to get stuck and then later on closes or does the action eventually. I am trying to find an answer, but don't know if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
  9. Mac OSX High Sierra user. Alfred 4.5 (1253) Sync set to Dropbox Folder (See Advanced/Sync/Set Preferences Folder) When I hit Cmd spacebar (my Alfred hotkey), I have an occasional delay before the Alfred popup appears. (Didn't occur on OSX Sierra). This often ends up with me typing into the open app rather than the Alfred popup which is a bit annoying. I have tried all the solutions mentioned above with no success and am hoping my solution below will fix this issue .. time will tell 🙂 I have set the preferences folder to a local folder 'Alfred Backup' .. so my Alfred Preferences are backed up to this local folder not Dropbox I think this may have solved the lag which I suspect has something to do with Dropbox. It means I am no longer syncing to Dropbox so if I make any changes to my settings or workflows then I have to manually copy them to my other Macs which is not ideal. My testing plan is Week 1 - try this out and see if the lag problem is eliminated. Week 2 - If week 1 test is ok then I will try using another syncing service (pCloud) and see if the lag re-appears I'll report back in a couple of weeks with how this went.
  10. @Andrew, thanks for working on this so quickly. I have the 3rd issue from your post. I have since reverted back to Yosemite, but moved my High Sierra system to external drive. I've rebooted to High Sierra and installed the beta build. After a few quick tests I can confirm that it works. You're fast! But I have a feeling that the performance is slower. When you start typing your query, there's a 1-2 seconds lag (it says something along the lines of Waiting for search results...). The stable build doesn't have that lag.
  11. @AJCrowley As Vitor said, there's a High Sierra issue affecting a small proportion of users when using high window blur. Simply lowering the blur resolves the issue. Take a look at the "lag" headline here: https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ Also, please fill in your Powerpack email address in your forum profile. Cheers, Vero
  12. Hello, @chutnacik I ask that in the future you do a search on the forums before posting. Search for “high sierra lag” and you’ll find this post is a duplicate of over a dozen others. It’s a well known issue. To fix it, look for “lag” in this blog post and follow the tips.
  13. @Bananasplit Welcome to the forum! Could you take a look at the theme you're using to see whether you're affected by the lag issue outlined here (third header)? Simply lower the window blur on your theme to resolve any lag issues. https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ Cheers, Vero
  14. @Jonathan There are two primary things that could be causing lag relating to Alfred: 1. Themes with window blur: It sounds like you've already taken a look at this, but do check that your theme is a low or no window blur theme by either using a default theme on Alfred 3.5, or setting the theme to no blur by clicking the circle in the top left of the Appearance canvas on custom themes. 2. Metadata indexing: If you've just upgraded to High Sierra, your Mac may still be in the process of indexing. If it's been a few days, you may benefit from reindexing, as lag can be the result of a corrupted or incomplete index. You can do this by going to Alfred's Advanced prefs and clicking on "Rebuild macOS metadata" - Be sure to check the box to "Delete /.Spotlight-V100" to make sure you're starting with a fresh new index Oh and also, check your search scope in Features > Default Results to make sure you're not including external drives in your search scope. If slow drives are included in the default scope, they could lead to slow results. Let me know how you get on. Cheers, Vero
  15. You are right. The issue is now fixed. I can set blur to max without any lag. However, the lag was still there after updating to version 3.5.1 [878] yesterday. Maybe the incremental High Sierra update today or the system restart fixed it now. Nevertheless, thank you for the fix!
  16. @sfcgeorge Welcome to the forum! kernel_task is a part of the macOS core, so is that showing as using up a lot of CPU? Did you also take a look at the rest of the post you're linking to? As per the third header which relates to lag specifically, ensure that you're using a theme with low window blur, as some users are experiencing lag due to a High Sierra bug with window blur. Once you've changed theme to a low window blur one, let me know how you get on. Also, could you please add your Powerpack email address to your forum profile? Cheers, Vero
  17. Hi @mbigras - Take a look at this blog post, in particular the "lag" header. It's likely that you just have a high window blur theme, and tweaking your theme will resolve the issue for you https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ Cheers, Vero
  18. Hi @olivm and welcome to the forum. Please take a look at the "lag" header in this post for the simple fix (lowering window blur on the theme you're using): https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ Also, please fill in your Powerpack email address in your forum profile. This is only visible to admins, but allows us to confirm the Powerpack status of users. Cheers, Vero
  19. Welcome. This is a known issue. Search these forums for “High Sierra lag” and you’ll find a bunch of topics. The problem most likely lies with your theme, if it uses a window blur.
  20. @WalterBeiter This issue's already been raised and resolved, if you take a look at the "lag" header in this post: https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ If you're using a custom theme, lower the window blur by clicking on the circle icon in the top left of the Appearance canvas in Alfred's preferences, or change to one of the default themes. [Moving this post to Closed] Cheers, Vero
  21. I am using macOS 10.13 with Alfred 3.5 Build 875. Whenever I hit the shortcut for Alfred and start typing, everything starts to lag. Every character that I press is delayed for at least half a second. The search result itself appear to be fast as usual, but the typing lags. This happens every time, even after restarting the mac.
  22. I've noticed an issue when I try invoke Alfred in macOS High Sierra. Sometimes the hotkey doesn't do anything the first time I invoke Alfred and I have to do it again. I'm not sure if this is related to the lag issue? On the other hand, Spotlight opens immediately when I invoke it using its hotkeys.
  23. Sorry, just found information on the lag issue here on the Alfred blog post: https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/alfred-3-5-ready-for-high-sierra/ Case closed Thanks, Jason
