Alan He reacted to roosterboy in Automation Tasks updated - but what changed?
When Automation Tasks are updated, where can we see what was updated? Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to find anything that says what the changes were.

    @DampSquid Welcome to the forum

You can set Alfred to remember your query history, and show it if within 5 minutes, by enabling it in the preferences:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/keep-your-latest-query-handy/

I'm guessing that you don't have this enabled yet, but let me know if I've misunderstood your question / suggestion.

Alan He reacted to ccsameer in Popularity Measure to Alfred Gallery Workflows
I think it would be great if there was something like an upvote feature in Alfred Gallery that indicates the popularity of a particular Workflow that's been submitted.

Of course, you could gauge the popularity by taking note of the stars or other Github activity indicators, but having this feature directly on the Alfred Gallery site could be more user-friendly and engaging. Perhaps even including a comment section on each Alfred Gallery Workflow's page too?

    Welcome @tweak,

The current version is already on the update tab, right at the top left (same place as in General). It says “You are using Alfred <version here>”.

On update tab, where it shows Alfred vX.X.X is available, add the current version the user is using. Otherwise we have to go off update tab to General tab, check top left corner for current version, then go back to update tab and compare to read what's new in the release notes since the one that's installed.

Alan He reacted to Vero in Open the Snippets Preferences Window by a Shortcut
@schaefera As well as the ways @Stephen_C suggested, you can type "?snippets" into Alfred and choose the result with Features > Snippets as the subtext - This will take you directly to the preferences. (This applies to any of the preferences, workflow keywords, etc when prefixed with the question mark)

Also, if you want to create a snippet from a bit of text you've just copied to the clipboard, you can pop up Alfred's Clipboard Viewer, choose the item you want to turn into a snippet and use Cmd + S to instantly start creating a snippet based on it.

    Hope this helps

Alan He reacted to nikivi in Add a way to quickly delete a snippet from Snippets Search
    Say I find a snippet

I want to be able to quickly delete it right from this search. `cmd+shift+delete` or `cmd+delete`.

Right now to delete. I have to first open it with `cmd+return`. Then I can't even delete it here:

I have to cancel. Then after cancel the snippet is not focused, so I can't immediately press cmd+delete either:

Thus can't even automate it without some image recognition.

Please add a fast way to delete snippets from the search. It's essential feature for me if I was to use Alfred Snippets heavily for all my snippets as I cycle some snippets and need that fast ability to delete them.

    Thank you lots. ♥️

Alan He reacted to Andrew in Keep clipboard history forever
While I'm not completely closed to the idea of increasing potential capacity of the clipboard history (search performance implications aside), I'd like to understand when 3 months of text isn't enough.

If you use an item from the clipboard history, it moves to the top of the list, effectively resetting the 3 month timer on that item. So really, the 3 month limit is "items in the clipboard history which I haven't used in the last 3 months".

Anything you need longer than this would surely be better suited to a snippet? (It's extremely easy to convert a clipboard item to a snippet by using cmd+s on it in the clipboard history view).

    Cheers,
    Andrew

I haven't upgraded to Alfred 5 yet mainly because I haven't needed to.. but if this is included in a future version i'm 100% gonna pay to upgrade.

    Welcome @Tools,

Have you turned on Alfred Preferences → Features → Clipboard History → Advanced → Auto paste on return? With that option turned off, selecting something to on the Clipboard History makes it active, i.e. you can ⌘V to paste it. With it on, the pasting happens at the same time.

@Curious As well as looking at the thread linked by Stephen, try dragging one of the web apps to Alfred's File Troubleshooting, which will likely tell you to set your Search Scope (in Features > Default Results) to "Reset to full disk":
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/

Once you've done this, the web apps should be included in your results.

They are in the Applications folder under your user account, not the system-wide one. The Launchpad and Dock are only shortcuts, everything you see in there has a home somewhere else.

Alan He reacted to vitor in Option for Web Searches to open in new browser window (instead of a tab)
This can’t be a general setting because to tell a browser to open in a new window you have to tell that specific browser. In other words, you have to automate it, and each browser does it their own way. Firefox, notably, cannot be automated via AppleScript.

But you can still get what you want in other browsers by making a workflow with the Automation Task top open a new window in the frontmost browser.

Alan He reacted to Vero in Will Snippets work in RDP?
@PizzaGuyRidesAtDawn There are a few ways to work with the fact that you're using Windows. You're correct that pasting assumes Cmd + V will paste the current pasteboard content.

The simplest way to deal with this is to pop up Alfred's Snippets Viewer, choose your snippet and use Cmd + C to copy it to your clipboard, then Ctrl + V to paste to your VM.

I'm not familiar with Remote Desktop, but here are some steps I gave to a Parallels user some time ago, much of which would apply here:

However, this comes with the caveat that I do not have access to Remote Desktop to test it, so you'll likely need to fiddle around a little with your VM.

If all else fails, copying from the Snippet/Clipboard Viewer option will be your best option.

Let me know how you get on.

    Cheers,
    Vero

Alan He reacted to luckman212 in Is there a URI scheme to open Alfred's Debugger?
I was wondering if there was a URI scheme e.g. alfredpreferences://openDebugger that could be called from within a running workflow to open the debugger, for example to alert the user about some error that has occurred.

If there isn't such a thing, please consider this a feature request!

    Just read the doc: https://www.alfredapp.com/help/workflows/inputs/script-filter/json/

It seems that Alfred requires icons to be provided by a file? So it seems that Alfred cannot use Emoji as an icon, or provide icons in BASE64 format? In addition, if using a file as an icon, is there any requirement for the image format? Must it be PNG? Or can it be SVG, JPEG, and so on?

Alan He reacted to vitor in How to automatically start an alfred workflow at login, using Alfred 5?
By design, Alfred workflows have to be explicitly called. Though with External Triggers you can essentially have anything start a workflow. You can use something like LaunchControl to fire a command at startup, and have that command be the External Trigger. You should likely tell the command to delay for a few seconds, to make sure macOS had enough time to start Alfred and other stuff which may be necessary.

Alan He reacted to vitor in brightness workflow
That commit is from 2021; nothing has changed with the tool since the last time this was discussed. The latest release is still from 2015, thus that’s what’s included in Homebrew, which means it doesn’t work on Apple Silicon (as per the link above). I have triple-checked this.

Since then there have been introduced a couple of new Automation Task which can change brightness up and down without dependencies so anyone can recreate this easily without code. I’ll soon have a workflow to exemplify that and the companion actions.

Because there doesn’t seem like the brightness situation will change any time soon, closing this submission. Naturally, you’re welcome to keep distributing it in your GitHub repo but it’s not a fit for the Gallery at this time as it won’t work for most people. Thank you anyway.
