    Hi team,

I've installed Alfred 5 and I'm very excited about that. But looking for a foro for the new A5 users  I can't find it. I guess We need it.

P.D. So bad, you never invite me to the early access.

We sent an email inviting everyone who signed up to the Early Access a few weeks ago. The early access was public, so anybody could have joined.

The forum as a whole can be used for questions on Alfred 5 - is there anything in particular you need help with? :)

  2. @dogen Apple have removed Python 2 from macOS Monterey a few versions ago, so workflows that relied on this built-in scripting languages needed to be updated.

You can read about the changes to macOS here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/guides-and-tutorials/python-2-workflows-on-macos-monterey-12-3/

There are various updated versions of the workflow, which you can grab here (but please read the Readme instructions first as these will guide your preferred alternative workflow):

    https://github.com/alfredapp/updated-third-party-python2-workflows#workflows

  3. @All4Alfred Welcome to the forum :) Could you please be more specific so that we can help you?

    • Which version of Alfred and macOS are you using? "Latest" isn't clear as that could be the latest Ventura beta or the latest public Monterey build, could be that you think you're on the latest but you're not, etc...
    • Does the issue happen with one specific app? Does it happen with all apps?
    • If you create a new temporary user account on your Mac, do you see the same behaviour?

The more information you can provide, the more likely we'll be able to help you troubleshoot this unusual issue on your Mac. :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  4. @Quadratic Circle (This is both for your benefit and anyone else coming across this thread later on, as it sounds like you're all sorted now)

If you enter your Alfred 5 Powerpack license when the Migration Assistant pops up when you first install Alfred 5, your sync location should be carried through.

If you Skip setup e.g. if you don't yet have your v5 license handy, you can enter your license in the Powerpack tab later on, but will then need to pick your sync folder manually in the Advanced preferences :)

    Enjoy Alfred 5!

  5. @Alexander911 I've had a look at the Diagnostics you've emailed, and it doesn't appear you've followed step 2 to widen your search scope, unless you reset the search scope before sending your Diagnostics?

Your search scope should look like this:

     image.png

Again, the Monterey issue is a macOS Migration Assistant issue, rather than an Alfred one, and this is a workaround. The alternatives are to create a new user account on your Mac (where macOS doesn't have the hangups from Migration Assistant) or in some cases, simply reindexing seems to fix it for some users.

  6. @GrantL Do you have any idea why you have Preview.app in so many iCloud folder? It's not normal for the app to be replicated in numerous iCloud folders, for example your iCloud Documents folder and Freeagent folder. There's no reason for apps to be duplicated in these locations.  Are you doing any unusual /manual backups of your OS to iCloud?

At this point, these results are being returned to Alfred by macOS; You'll first need to establish why the Preview.app instances are in all of these locations.

Once you've worked this out, you can rebuild your Mac's index by following the indexing instructions here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/#rebuild

  7. @Alexander911 Did you recently upgrade to Monterey and did you by any chance migrate your data from a previous Mac? If so, you're encountering a known issue with the macOS Monterey Migration Assistant. The issue and workaround are outlined here:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/monterey/

Let me know how you get on after following step 2 and widening your search scope.

If the issue persists, try using the File Troubleshooter to see whether any metadata is missing for the files you can't find.

If you need further help, could you please:
    - Provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred (you can email this to info@ and include a link to this thread)
    - Include the output from a few File Troubleshooting tests for files
    - Let me know exactly what you're typing into Alfred when searching for these files (including any keywords or prefixes)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  8. @Nuno iCloud isn't currently recommended due to being slower at syncing (sometimes not syncing at all for a long period of time), being less reliable and doing a poor job of file conflict resolution.

In our internal testing and when supporting users who chose to use iCloud, we saw preferences being lost, especially due to file conflicts where iCloud loses files or reverts to old versions when it's unable to resolve them.

We're very keen to improve the sync options and already have a broad plan for this. There are quite a few aspects to doing this well, such as adding an automatic local backup option, ensuring that if syncing goes wrong, you have a recent backup you can go back to, so we'll be looking into this further once Alfred 5 is out and settled. :)

Having said that, if you'd like to experiment with using iCloud, you can do it; Just make sure you keep your preferences backed up using Time Machine or another regular backup service of your choice.

  9. @Patrick_ Welcome to the forum :)

I suspect that you're using a location for your sync folder that isn't available at startup, or becomes unavailable at some stage, causing Alfred's preferences to reset to defaults.

If you're using Dropbox, for example, you need to ensure that the new SmartSync feature is disabled for the Alfred preferences folder; This feature allows Dropbox to arbitrarily decide when your data should be stored on your Mac vs online-only.

If your issue persists, could you please email your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred, to our info@ address with a link to this thread?

Being able to add keystrokes such as <Tab key> within the Snippets would be good.

In that case, you can create a workflow starting with a Snippet Trigger, and adding a Dispatch Key Combo before the next bit of pasted text. This is particularly useful in that you can also use a short Delay utility if needed before the next piece of text is pasted, in case the app / site you're using is a little slow. Ensures you get good results every time :)

Start a new thread in the Workflows Help & Questions section if you need a hand.

I am also pretty certain that I haven't changed any other setting the past six months.

While you haven't personally, Dropbox has changed over time, so these changes may have happened behind the scenes and without you being made explicitly aware of them.

If your issue with preferences persists, switch your sync location to a local one on your Mac (e.g. in your user directory, create an Alfred folder) and change some preferences there, then see whether they're saved correctly.

You can then create a new "Always offline" folder in Dropbox, and sync your preferences there.

Let me know how you get on :)

  13. @Rotterdammer Welcome to the forum :)

Could you please let me know how you're syncing your preferences?

If you're using Dropbox, make sure that the folder you're using is set to be Always Available Offline, and not to Dropbox's default SmartSync (which can cause your preferences to be stored online-only), which makes them unavailable to Alfred, causing him to create a new set of default preferences.

If you're using an alternative sync service, the same concept applies; You need to ensure that the preferences are always available right from startup.

Let me know how you get on.

  14. @zamboknee It's most likely one of two things:

    • Permissions: I know you said you re-granted them, but this sounds like the most likely issue as you're saying neither snippets or clipboard are working, both of which rely on Accessibility. Could you again remove Alfred completely from accessibility and re-add (not just unticking/reticking the box)?
    • Check the features are enabled in the preferences; For Clipboard, go to Features > Clipboard, and make sure the boxes for Text and any other types you want to save to clipboard are ticked. The same goes for enabling Auto-Expansion in the top right of the Features > Snippets preferences.

If your issue persists, please drop an email to our info@ address with your Diagnostics file so that I can take a look.

    Cheers,
    Vero
