No problem. I realize this notification dismiss action has been notoriously difficult to solve in the past. Thanks for making this available.

Hmm, that’s right. I’ve forgotten that I could trigger Universal Action from a Finder window. Thanks for the workflow. It works for what it is made for and I’m thankful. Saves lots of time especially with the files being every where.

That’s due to changes Apple has been making for a few OSs which are making preferences harder to use from the outside. That’s why you get that generic icon too.

On the Alfred Gallery there is System Settings and Open macOS Settings Panes. Both solve the issue in different ways. They are in English, but you can edit them to the Spanish names.

Well done! Now see if you can cater for others whose path to the Desktop (and user name) is not the same as yours. By way of a hint, take a look at the workflow configuration in, for example, my Save 'ur note workflow. The workflow configuration can be a great help for users. For example, you could mention in it the need to download and install imageprep and provide a link to the download. Take a look at this Alfred help page about workflow configuration.

(I should say that I've not run the workflow—although I downloaded and looked at it—because I have neither tiffs nor imageprep. However, I'm sure you've checked that it works!)

    Type a unit to filter.

Pressing ↩ on a partial match triggers the autocomplete. See all possible conversion targets when matching a unit exactly.

Type further to filter for target units. Connector words (“to”, “as”, “in”) are optional to help with readability. Rounding precision and notation can be set in the Workflow’s Configuration.

↩: Copy result to clipboard. ⌘↩: Paste result to frontmost app. Configure the Hotkey or use the Universal Action as shortcuts to convert results from Alfred’s Calculator, Clipboard History, or selected text.

vitor got a reaction from Grug in Standard Workflow Object + Alfred-UI for obtaining API tokens
You missed the biggest one: millions of dollars in VC funding. That’s quite difficult for Alfred to go up against with a two-person team for everything in the business. When you have money to burn, it’s easy to offer features for free despite a big team. That’s not to say you’re wrong on the other points—you’re not—but Alfred’s team has to (more) carefully choose where to invest their time.

I agree that’s a hurdle, but it’s not immediately clear how to clear it. It doesn’t help that Raycast themselves misrepresent (or outright lie about; I can’t say) what Alfred can do. I’ve seen it in the wild once or twice.

Also note that their money buys them hype, and developers are inherently interested in new things. Their business model isn’t yet clear—will they be subscription-based, one-time purchase, will they sell your data before being bought by another company that will kill the app? And are they even targeting the same users as Alfred? From what I gather of their still closed API, their extensions will be exclusively built with code, which ignores a huge chunk of Alfred’s users (non-coders can and do make Workflows) and may not allow as much versatility (I don’t know). I could go on.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth looking into Raycast. All I’m saying is it’s too soon to imagine a doomsday scenario for Alfred because of it. Besides being new and loaded, are they that different from other alternatives, such as Launchbar (not rhetorical)?

That’s another one where I agree with you. But it’s also another one without an immediate solution. There are quite a few websites for discovering Workflows, but (in my view) none of them are up to snuff after Packal. Partly because—in agreement with a comment on the YouTube link you posted—it can be hard to identify a dead Workflow. That said, I don’t think it’s fair to lunge that criticism at Alfred on a direct comparison to another tool which hasn’t existed for long enough for that to be an issue. I see no reason why they would be immune to that.

It’s been discussed at length on this issue why that’s not necessarily true. It’s a feature the vast majority of Workflows would not benefit from, hard to tackle, and at the mercy of the whims of third-parties. And to do all that you need time, which will not be used for something else. Yes, if that feature were implemented and maintained without effort (or done by someone else in a third-party tool, as suggested above) it could be a good thing. But it has a major tradeoff as it stands. Is that tradeoff worth it at this time? I’d argue “no”, but that’s only an opinion.

Again, we all want Alfred to be better. And we all want Alfred to be as powerful as it can be as long as it doesn’t come at the expense of speed or stability. But every change you make has multiple costs; considering those before investing is wise.

    Welcome @mcflurry,

When asking about an existing Workflow, it’s best to use its own forum thread. While it may seem that starting a new thread could give your problem visibility, it fragments the discussion and makes it less likely the author and users of the workflow (the people who can help) will see it. I have moved your post to the correct thread.

More information is required to diagnose the issue. Please see the short post How to Report a Problem with a Workflow for details on what to provide.

vitor reacted to giovanni in Python Script Output to Workflow (Not Script Filter)
Hi @PB-Panda welcome to the forum! You are correct, a script filter is not needed, and neither is a JSON output. You just need to print (or sys.stdout.write) your output so that it becomes available to the next item in the workflow.

This is a similar workflow to which I have added a space removal universal action using Python, which should be helpful to you as a template.
    I hope this helps!

vitor got a reaction from Stephen_C in Alfred not showing system apps
There’s a second part to Homebrew, Homebrew Cask, which deals with the installation of GUI apps and much more. It’s officially part of Homebrew now but started as a separate project and it still has separate rules for some things. There are a few reasons to install that way, such as being fast to set up a new machine because it only takes one command to install multiple apps at once, or being able to uninstall apps and remove known associated files. It also allows you sidestep what some big apps do where from the website you download an app of a few MBs whose only purpose is to then download hundreds more once you open it.

It’s unlikely it would make a difference here. Homebrew Cask downloads directly from the source and strives to make the resulting installation be as close as possible to a manual install.

vitor got a reaction from Belfong in fzf-alfred-workflow
    @Belfong

brew uninstall fzf fd brew autoremove
First line removes what’s listed in the workflow’s page. Second line removes any dependencies which are no longer needed.

But Homebrew is very self-contained, so leaving them installed is not a huge deal.
